In 2022 Catharine added three Calgary occupational therapists, and in 2024 Valley to Peak expanded to serve the Edmonton area regularly with the addition of three local occupational therapists. The entire team prides itself on assisting clients and their families to navigate the healthcare and insurance systems, coordinate equipment and services, and provide peace of mind.

THE SHED EFFECT: Today is International Men’s Day and every day Men’s Sheds across Canada contribute to their communities through volunteer projects, mentorship, and collaboration with local organizations, creating the ripple they call The Shed Effect.

And today Valley to Peak is proud to announce that for 2026 we will be supporting Men's Sheds in Calgary, Edmonton and Camrose as part of our 'New Year, New Charity' campaign, as our way of giving back to the communities we serve.

What is a Men's Shed?
Simply put, a Men’s Shed is a group of men who get together in their community to develop new skills, discover new interests, and make new friends. But it’s so much more than that. For many men, aging and retirement can lead to loneliness and a loss of purpose; and that’s where Men’s Sheds come in. Symbolic of that backyard workshop where men share stories and tinker with woodworking or electronics, a Men’s Shed is grounded in the idea that men communicate more effectively when they’re “shoulder to shoulder” with other men. As health concerns related to social isolation and depression are often unrecognized, and men can be reluctant to seek help, Men’s Sheds have a vital role to play in fostering emotional well-being and transformative, fulfilling relationships for men in their retirement years. Shed members cross age, culture, and socioeconomic status, and no two Sheds are quite alike. Some Shedders gather in a workshop to build and fix things. Others focus on hiking or gardening or cooking. Most team up with local organizations to do special projects that support their community. But what all Sheds have in common is a welcoming environment where men create shared experiences, celebrate accomplishments, and build community.

WE LOVE : Yesterday was Calgary’s accessible Halloween village and the sense of community, inclusion, acceptance, and joy was incredible! We loved supporting through our table, everyone loved our treats (especially the parents!) It was fantastic to meet Rich who started this movement with his family back in 2017. Huge thanks to former OT student and SIL Kayla for helping out, and energetically blowing bubbles for 3 hours when the bubble machine died! We loved seeing and ARK Kids there, as well as some former clients. Thank you to the Calgary community and all the organizations and sponsors who have helped grow this beautiful event. Catharine’s kids have candy, crayons, modeling clay, books, studies, stickers, bubbles and more to last them until next year! See you in 2026!
