As therapists, how we end a session matters.

The last few minutes of a therapy session can help clients reflect on what stood out, consolidate insight, and transition back into their day with intention. Over the years in my work as a psychologist, I’ve found that a thoughtful closing can make a meaningful difference in how clients integrate what we explored.

Here are a few simple ways I often wrap up sessions with clients.

Therapists, counsellors, and students in training, I’m curious:
How do you usually close your sessions?

Black history is not separate from mental health.
History shapes stress, safety, access to care, and how communities learn to cope.

As therapists, we can’t separate healing from context.
Honouring Black history also means advocating for equitable, culturally responsive mental health care — here in our own communities.

Taking advantage of maternity leave in a way that feels meaningful and aligned. On the days when I have time and capacity, I’m continuing to deepen my learning by completing additional training in couples therapy and addiction recovery.

Each step brings me closer to becoming a Certified Gottman Therapist, while also strengthening the skills and insight I bring to the couples I work with. Ongoing growth and learning will always be part of how I show up — both as a therapist and as a human.

Valentine’s Day often focuses on grand gestures — flowers, gifts, and romantic plans.

But strong relationships are rarely built in one big moment.

In couples therapy, we talk about the idea of the emotional bank account. Connection grows through small, consistent emotional deposits: turning toward each other, expressing appreciation, staying emotionally present, and nurturing everyday moments of closeness.

Love deepens through consistency, not perfection.

Valentine’s Day can be a beautiful reminder to invest in the emotional connection that sustains your relationship long after the day has passed. ❤️

I said what I said 👀 — conflict isn’t what breaks relationships.

How partners show up emotionally during conflict matters more than the conflict itself.
