You don’t need to avoid or blame to understand.
You need curiosity.
It changes everything.

When we stay curious, we create space instead of stories.
We ask what happened instead of deciding who’s at fault.
We listen instead of react.
And that shift alone can soften conflict, deepen connection, and open the door to real understanding.

Curiosity doesn’t mean you excuse harm.
It means you choose clarity over defensiveness and understanding over assumptions.

If this landed for you, let it live with you today.
Try curiosity first — especially in the moments that feel hardest. 🤍

When I say “rules I break,” what I really mean is that I practice intentionally, ethically, and human-first — not rigidly or behind outdated myths of what therapy is “supposed” to look like.

Every choice I make in the therapy room is grounded in clinical training, professional standards, and what best serves the client or the relationship in front of me. Talking about real-world stressors, using thoughtful self-disclosure, interrupting unhealthy cycles in real time, celebrating meaningful moments, and naming harm when it shows up — none of this is breaking rules. It is ethical, relational, and trauma-informed care.

Therapy gets to be both professional and real. 🤍

Tell me your dreams in the comments 🤍

Crazy to think that I took a leap and started my private practice in my 20s. It’s okay to build something meaningful while still feeling fearful — honestly, you will never feel fully ready. And yet, you do it anyway.

This year, I took another leap… growing Healing Journey Collective into a group practice. A dream I once whispered about is now something I get to live every day. If you’re sitting on a dream too, this is your reminder: start small, start scared, start imperfect — but start. ✨

Some seasons are about thriving, and some are about simply making it through the day. If this year felt heavy, slow, or nothing like what you planned—you’re not alone. Survival is still a story of strength. Your journey doesn’t need to match anyone else’s pace or highlight reel to be meaningful. Your softness, your rest, your breath… they all count. 🤍

- Be gentle with yourself as the year wraps up.
- Honour the chapters no one else sees.
- Your journey is still worthy.

Relationships don’t fall apart overnight — they drift, quietly, in the moments we stop checking in with each other.
Maintenance therapy isn’t about “fixing something broken.”
It’s about tending to your connection before the cracks deepen.

Just like flowing water, love stays strong when there’s movement, intention, and care.

If you’ve been feeling a little disconnected lately, this is your gentle reminder: you don’t have to wait for a crisis to invest in your relationship.
Small tune-ups now can prevent big ruptures later. 💛

We offer Gottman-informed and EFT-based couples counselling at Healing Journey Collective.
Complimentary 15-minute consultations available.

As a couples therapist trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I’ve learned so much about what truly helps partners reconnect.

It’s rarely about communication techniques or finding the “perfect words.” It’s about creating emotional safety, a space where both people feel seen, valued, and safe enough to be vulnerable. That’s where healing begins. 🌿

I’ve watched couples transform when they start recognizing the deeper emotions beneath their conflict, when they reach for each other instead of turning away, and when they repair instead of retreat.

Love isn’t about getting it right every time. It’s about learning how to find your way back to each other, again and again. 🤍 💚

When your partner says “Look at that bird!” — they’re not testing your eyesight 🐦
They’re reaching out for connection.

In Gottman’s research, these small moments — called bids for connection — are the tiny threads that hold relationships together. They might sound simple: a comment about the weather, a story from work, or a shared glance across the room. But how we respond to those bids shapes the entire emotional climate of the relationship.

We all have countless opportunities each day to either turn toward, turn away, or turn against our partner.
Turning toward might look like a smile, a small “tell me more,” or putting your phone down for a second. It’s less about the bird — and more about saying, “I see you, I’m with you, you matter.” 💞

It’s these micro-moments of presence and care that build emotional safety and long-term trust.
Not grand gestures, not perfect communication — just everyday awareness and gentle attention.

So the next time your partner says, “Look at that bird!” — pause, look up, and turn toward. You might just be building something beautiful, one moment at a time.

Trying to fix your partner often comes from love but it can backfire.

According to Gottman’s research, the healthiest relationships are rooted in acceptance, understanding, and appreciation, not correction.

When we focus on changing our partner, we unintentionally trigger defensiveness and the Four Horsemen — criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling — that slowly erode connection.

Instead, focus on curiosity and gratitude. Notice what your partner does right, express appreciation often, and approach challenges as a team. That’s where growth begins. 🌿
