Spring is just around the corner and any taste of sunshine we have been getting in the past few days has been so life giving. 💛

There is a lot going on in the world right now - I wanted to just share a little encouragement and remind you that you can not pour from an empty cup.

Nutrition is a huge part of self-care and honouring your body & your health. Sustainable change does not happen in a day. Building your health is rooted in every day choices that either fill your cup or don’t.

Helping and loving others starts with you and loving yourself. The world needs your light!

Allow me to reintroduce myself for the new friendly faces I see around my page, I’m Jenn, nice to meet you 🤍

I am a Certified Nutritional Practitioner (CNP) and Natural Nutrition Clinical Practitioner (NNCP) 🍏

I am passionate about food (this is an obvious one… see the second picture for proof), I love helping others feel their best, and I truly am amazed every single day by the beauty of food and how it nourishes our bodies.

I always like to include some fun facts in my intros so here are a few to help get to know me:

🥗 I love me a good salad in the warmer months but DO NOT try to get me to eat raw kale in the winter - I am not about it unless I am 100% in the mood. Give me all the soup and warming foods.

💧 I’m a terrible swimmer but I want to get better because I both fear and love the water… just give me a floatie and I will be on my way.

🍫 I am a sucker for fancy, gourmet dark chocolate. When my husband and I were dating we would make it our mission to try a new fancy organic chocolate bar on each date. This quickly became the sweetest tradition (pun intended).

Let’s talk about bone health 🦴💪🏻

November is Osteoporosis awareness month - when we talk about bone health we often think of the following foundational nutrient: Calcium.

While there are many more factors contributing to bone strength and function beyond Calcium, it is a very important player in keeping our bones strong and healthy.

Here are some high Calcium foods you can incorporate into your diet (hint: you don’t have to source your calcium from dairy for it to be well absorbed):

🦴Chia seeds
🦴Sesame seeds (or tahini)
🦴Chickpeas
🦴Leafy greens
🦴Bone broth
🦴Apricots
🦴Broccoli

I had the pleasure of attending for their annual Sea Buckthorn Festival this morning 💛

Sea Buckthorn berries are an amazing little golden fruit that are tart, fresh and bursting with flavour!

Nutritionally speaking, Sea Buckthorn is a very rich source of Vitamin C and Vitamin A. It also has an impressive fatty acid profile making it great for topical use in addition to internal consumption (consult your healthcare practitioner before introducing any new herbs into your routine).

The nutritional benefits of this powerhouse herb make it helpful in supporting our immune and cardiovascular health as well as skin health just to name a few… I also learned today that you can make a tea/herbal infusion from Sea Buckthorn leaves and it tastes remarkably similar to Nettle tea ☕️

In short, every woman’s needs will be very unique - so it can be tricky to give a straight answer, but as always I encourage you to check with a health care professional before starting any supplementation.
