Authenticity and the Sense of Self
The authentic self is about coming home to who you are—your values, emotions, needs, and boundaries—without having to reshape yourself to be accepted. Counselling can offer a safe space to reconnect with this sense of self, allowing greater clarity, self-trust, and emotional well-being to gently unfold over time.

People with ADHD are often described as “indecisive” or “non-committal.” In reality, difficulty committing is usually connected to how the ADHD brain processes time, emotion, and energy — not a lack of care or effort.
For many individuals with ADHD:
• The future can feel hard to predict (often called time blindness)
• Decisions may feel overwhelming because multiple possibilities stay active at once
• Emotional intensity and fear of letting others down can make commitment feel risky
• Past experiences of burnout or over-committing lead to cautious decision-making
• Motivation fluctuates based on interest and energy, not intention alone
Hesitation around commitment is often a protective strategy, developed through lived experience.
When flexibility, check-ins, and realistic expectations are built in, people with ADHD are far more likely to thrive.
Understanding this difference helps reduce shame and supports healthier relationships, workplaces, and self-expectations.

During periods of extreme cold, community members are reminded that The Station and the Cochrane Public Library are available as warm, safe places to spend time when temperatures drop below –20°C.

The Cochrane Public Library in particular, offers longer daytime hours, making it a suitable option for individuals who need a warm and welcoming space to spend extended periods indoors. Patrons are welcome to stay for the day or visit as needed during regular operating hours. For current hours, please visit the Library website or call 403-932-4353 to confirm availability.

Community members are encouraged to share this information with anyone who may be vulnerable during cold weather events. Staying warm and safe is a shared community responsibility.

Today, honour all who have served—and those who still do. We recognize the quiet load that service can carry: the memories, the injuries we can’t always see, and the impact that reaches spouses, children, parents, and communities.

From our hearts at Aspen Grove Counselling, we honour your courage, your sacrifice, and the love that holds your families together. 🌺

Olive update time 🐾
It’s been a little while since we’ve shared an update, and our sweet therapy-dog-in-training has had a big week. Olive is currently recovering from her spay surgery and taking a short break from her training so she can rest and heal.

We’re incredibly grateful for the team at Sunset Ridge Veterinary Clinic and her favourite vet, Dr. Fielding. Their steady calm under pressure, incredible patience, and genuine care made the whole experience feel so much easier and safer for both Olive and me.

Olive will be back to her training soon, but for now it’s all about naps, soft blankets, snuggles and healing.
