Our hearts are with the community in Tumbler Ridge and all of those affected by this tragedy.

Grief is our natural response and process to loss - take care of yourselves and reach out for help if you need it.

Our Executive Director Jack O’Halloran recently had the privilege of meeting with Jill McKnight, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence for the Government of Canada, to talk about mental health, veterans, and the often-overlooked needs of families. 💬🤍
At Step Forward Health Society, we’re committed to making mental health care accessible and affordable, especially for those navigating complex trauma, operational stress injuries, major life transitions, grief, moral injury, intense emotions, and chronic pain. And we’re just getting started.
We reduce barriers to care through The Step Forward Program, our sliding-scale counselling program offering compassionate, professionally supervised counselling. We also offer sessions at $20 with counselling interns for individuals on disability or income assistance, helping ensure support remains within reach.
Our Pain in the Arts Program, a creative, evidence-informed group for people living with chronic pain uses pain education, mindfulness, and art-making to build pain self-management skills and foster belonging.
For those experiencing high levels of distress and emotion regulation challenges, our DBT Group provides structured skills training to support coping, emotional regulation, and healthier relationships, all on a sliding-scale basis.
Mental health care should never be out of reach. Through advocacy, conversation, and action, we’re working toward a more inclusive system of care that truly meets people where they are. 🌱Visit us at www.stepforwardhealth.ca for more information.

✨ Mental Health & Wellness Fair @ SDSS ✨
This past week, Step Forward had the honour of attending the SDSS Mental Health & Wellness Fair — and wow, what a turnout. 🫶
We loved meeting so many high school students, answering thoughtful questions, and having real conversations about mental health, support, and stigma. The curiosity, honesty, and openness in the room gave us so much hope.
We were also excited to introduce our new Executive Director, Jack to the community and share a bit about where Step Forward is headed next. Big things ahead, and we’re grateful to bring students along for the journey. Thank you to the students who signed up to volunteer with us!
Thank you SDSS for creating space for these conversations — awareness starts here 💬💙

We're so grateful to hear a part of S's story, and how funding from the Step Forward Program helped her on her journey to healing. 💙

Thank you, S!

One client’s EMDR journey offers hope: how trauma can be processed, meaning restored, and healing found—even later in life.

We are incredibly grateful to the Delta Community Foundation for their generous financial support 💙
This funding allows Step Forward Health Society to continue and expand our mental health support group for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, while also beginning to offer meaningful support for their families. North and South Delta have unique needs, and this grant helps us thoughtfully tailor our programs to serve both communities with care and intention.
Thank you for continuing to support this program and believing in inclusive, community-rooted mental health support and helping us create safer, more affirming spaces for youth and families across Delta 🌈✨

We’re thrilled to introduce Jack O’Halloran as the new Executive Director of the Step Forward Health Society!
With over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector, Jack brings deep expertise in strategic leadership, governance, and community building. We’re beyond excited to have Jack on board. Jack shares, “I’m honoured to join an organization doing such vital and meaningful work. Step Forward Health Society has built a strong foundation of trust and impact. I’m excited to work alongside the Board and partners to expand our reach, strengthen community partnerships, and improve access to high-quality mental health support for those who need it most.”

Warm Holiday Wishes from Step Forward Health Society ✨
As the holiday season arrives, we want to send warmth and care to everyone in our community. We know that this time of year can bring joy for some, but it can also be heavy, lonely, or difficult for others—and all of those feelings are real and deserving of care.
If the holidays are hard for you, please know you’re not alone. Your experiences matter, and support matters.
As we look ahead to the new year, we hold space for hope: hope for gentler days, stronger connections, better access to care, and moments of light—even small ones—that help us keep moving forward.
From all of us at Step Forward Health Society, we’re wishing you compassion, rest, and hope as we step into the year ahead together. 🤍

As we head into the holidays, we're all too aware that abuse and violence in homes does not take a break. At Step Forward Health Society, we're committed to creating safety, and supporting change in homes experiencing abuse and violence.

We're here to support women who have experience, or believe they may be experiencing abuse or violence through our free When Love Hurts Program that provides education, support, and community to women who often feel completely alone in their pain.

We're also here to support men who recognize they are behaving in abusive ways in their relationships and want to make changes through our low-cost MenTOR program. MenTOR is an opportunity for men to transform themselves and transform the ways they behave in relationships through education, support, and community.

We're looking to launch our next groups in February and we're taking referrals now. Once we receive the referral, our community partner, Alongside You will reach out to get you connected.

As we're heading into the holidays, our team will be away from Dec 24 - Jan 5 but we will connect with you as soon as possible when we return.
