I totally get it. The unknown is always scary, but the beauty of fear is that when you lean into it you grow, and usually find something amazing on the other side.

Let’s talk neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport) and the fear around treatment.

These are a few questions that I typically get from someone who is considering anti-wrinkle treatment for the first time.

1. I’m so nervous. I don’t know why but I am freaking out a little... is this normal?

YES! it’s completely normal. You are getting needles in your face, albeit some of the tiniest needles out there, but it’s still a nerve wracking thought and the worry of the outcome is understandably normal and expected.

2. Will it hurt?

The needles are tiny and most people barely even feel anything at all. I have a squeeze ball and a facial massager on hand that can both help ease your nerves. Most people say “I can’t believe I was nervous, I didn’t feel anything! That was so easy!”

3. Will I look frozen? Is everyone going to know?

Conservative dosing is always key to ensure subtle, yet effective, results are met. The reaction from others should be along the lines of “You look so well rested”.

4. Is it safe?

Botox and Dysport are FDA approved and safe for both cosmetic and medical treatments. Not only do they relax facial wrinkles but Botox/Dysport are also used for multiple medical conditions such as headaches, TMJ and hyperhidrosis.

People also ask about the “right time” to start treatment. Cosmetically, when static lines start to stick around or your dynamic movements that cause the wrinkle to form are bothering you then it’s the right time. This may happen at age 25 or age 40. It’s very individual.
