One thing nobody tells you about having a service dog…

At some point… this just becomes your life 😅

Part 3:
Things I say no to as a handler…

Yes, she’s friendly. No, I’m not anti-people (most of the time…)

But in busy places—like the aquarium or a packed kids event—it’s gotta be a no.

If I say yes to one, I get swarmed… and that doesn’t work for my PTSD brain.

We’re not there for entertainment—she’s working.

That might not make sense to everyone, but it’s reality.

Generally, I’m pretty laid back… but if I say no, there’s a reason. Just respect it.

People think they’re being nice… but this is a hard no.

After a recent medical scare, I’m not taking chances with what goes into her body.

Not trying to be rude—just taking care of my partner.

If she’s off, I’m off. It’s that simple.

I’m pretty laid back… but if I say no, there’s a reason. Just respect it.

Service dogs aren’t defined by a vest and they’re not defined by a leash either.

Generally, service dogs must be under control at all times, but this doesn’t always mean on leash...

But there are situations where being off-leash is actually safer.

For me, that’s when I’m near golfers hitting, Willow stays in a controlled down stay so she doesn’t risk getting hit, while also being able to reach me if needed.

It’s not about the leash itself…
It’s about control, safety, and training.

Navigating the world with a service dog is a journey of trust and teamwork. Today’s encounter with an out-of-control 'service dog' reminds us how important it is to be informed and respectful. Let’s turn ignorance into understanding! 🌟🐕

Hurt-your-face cold… the kind that makes you question your life choices.

Meanwhile… this one’s out here living her absolute best life. ❄️🐾

This isn’t just a “well-behaved dog.”

This is a highly trained service dog working in real-world environments.

From packed arenas and loud pipe & drum bands…to PWHL games and golf courses, Willow is trained to stay calm, focused, and task-ready no matter the environment.

That level of consistency doesn’t happen by accident. It’s training, trust, and partnership.

If you see a service dog team in public, the best thing you can do is simple:

➡️ Give them space
➡️ Don’t distract
➡️ Let them work
