Many people believe something is wrong with them.
They think they are:
• too anxious
• too sensitive
• too overwhelmed
• too emotional
• too exhausted
• not disciplined enough
• not strong enough
But very often, the issue is not that something is wrong with you.
It is that your nervous system has been carrying too much for too long.
When the nervous system is overwhelmed, it can create symptoms like:
• anxiety
• irritability
• exhaustion
• overthinking
• shutdown
• people-pleasing
• difficulty resting
• feeling constantly on edge
These are not character flaws.
They are protective responses.
Your body learned to survive in environments where it needed to stay alert, manage emotions alone, or carry more responsibility than it should have.
The beautiful news is this:
When we begin to understand the nervous system and cultivate safety within it, many of these patterns begin to soften.
Healing does not begin with criticism.
Healing begins with understanding and compassion.
You are not broken.
Your body has simply been trying to protect you.
Reflection question for today:
What symptoms have you judged yourself for that might actually be your nervous system asking for support?
