Centre for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Edmonton

Centre for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Edmonton NO More Fear is an exposure based therapy service created by Janet Caryk, R.Psych., M.Ed. that interfere with a person's functioning and well-being.

The Centre for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a treatment and training clinic. Our team of psychologists are specifically trained to utilize the most advanced treatment available to alleviate symptoms (anxiety, depression, etc.) Our mission is to help clients gain mastery over their beliefs, attitudes, and predictions so they can change their emotions and behaviors and better cope with the challenges present in their world. Our specialty is the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders using cognitive therapy and exposure based treatments. Exposure, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) interventions represent a gold standard in the treatment of panic disorder, specific phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), health anxiety, social anxiety disorder and agoraphobia. Most people who are anxious tend to avoid phobic objects, activities, or places associated with their fears. They may also take extra special precautions to cope. Avoidance behaviors and coping strategies known as “safety devices”, as well as distraction efforts, work only in the short term, but then ultimately serve to perpetuate the problem. If you are struggling with any of these problems, be aware that our skilled clinicians will provide you with the tools that you require to overcome your difficulties. All you need is a willingness to evaluate and observe your thinking and begin to confront the situations or activities that you have been avoiding.

This week, I had the pleasure of presenting my workshop, Breaking Out of the OCD Cycle, in Calgary. It was such a privilege to spend the day with so many thoughtful and engaged psychologists. Thank you to the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta and Angela Sargent (Governance Officer) for inviting me and for supporting conversations about evidence-based OCD treatment across our province. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity and the wonderful participation from everyone who attended. .assoc.ab

🌟 Saving Lives and Reclaiming Hope 🌟
In the final part of our six-part series, Erin Margaret Northey reflects on her incredible progress and growth thanks to medication and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. She shares how the combination of these crucial treatments changed her world and gave her the one thing OCD had taken away: her quality of life. 🌈

💬 “It saved my life,” Erin courageously declares. Her journey is a testament to the power of evidence-based therapy, perseverance, and the support that makes recovery possible.

As we conclude this series, we hope Erin’s story has brought insight, inspiration, and hope to everyone affected by OCD—whether you’re on your own journey, supporting a loved one, or working to advance mental health care. Recovery is possible, and help is available. 💪

🧠💚 It’s OCD Awareness Week (Oct 12–18), and as a registered psychologist who works closely with individuals affected by OCD, I’m joining a global movement to change how OCD is seen and understood.
OCD is not a personality quirk. It’s a serious mental health condition that affects millions worldwide. Yet, too often, it’s misunderstood, minimized, or misrepresented.

This week, landmarks will shine teal, stories of strength will be shared, and communities will come together to say: no one should face OCD alone.

Whether you’re someone living with OCD, supporting a loved one, or simply wanting to learn more—your voice matters. When we speak the truth about OCD, we break down stigma and create space for compassion, connection, and hope.

Let’s stand . 💬
Share your story, bust a myth, or just spread the word. Everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and understood.

Such a pleasure to reconnect with Chris Baier, producer of the powerful documentary UNstuck: An OCD Kids Movie, at the IOCDF Conference in Chicago 🎥💙 I had the honor of first meeting Chris in NYC back in 2019, and I continue to be so grateful for his work in bringing visibility and hope to the OCD community.

In just 22 minutes, UNstuck offers an honest, moving, and incredibly educational look at OCD through the eyes of brave kids—and it’s a resource I recommend often. You can check it out at www.ocdkidsmovie.com. Thank you, Chris, for all you’ve done to highlight OCD and the importance of ERP treatment.

Janet Caryk had the incredible opportunity to speak at Davidson Creek elementary school about Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Thank you for the invitation to share insights and raise awareness about this often misunderstood condition.

OCD can be challenging, especially for children, but early intervention is key. With the right support, understanding, and treatment, kids with OCD can learn to manage their symptoms and thrive. Let’s continue to break the stigma and empower families with knowledge and resources.

Just returned from the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) Conference in Las Vegas, held April 3–5, 2025—and what a fantastic experience!

This conference brings together experts, researchers, and clinicians who are passionate about advancing treatment for anxiety, depression, and related disorders. It was a great opportunity to connect, learn, and be re-energized in the work we do.

Grateful for the insights, conversations, and inspiration. Already looking forward to next year!

I, Janet Caryk, had the pleasure of attending the 2025 Alberta Psychiatric Association Conference in beautiful Banff from March 20–23. One highlight was Dr. David Rubin’s talk, “The Efficacy of Being Outnumbered: Harnessing Family-Based Assessment and Treatments.”

As someone who uses family-based treatment in my own work, I found it both validating and inspiring. This approach is so important—not just for supporting the individual, but for strengthening the whole system around them.

Thank you, Dr. Rubin, for your valuable contribution!
