Edmonton Transition Birth Collective Helping to make your pregnancy, birth, postpartum & parenting as empowered and informed as possible There is no right or wrong way to birth your baby.

As doulas, our intention is to provide non-judgemental, client centered support, helping you achieve a beautiful and fulfilling birth, as you define it. Every person deserves the ability to fully understand their options and feel completely supported in whatever they choose. Whether your birth is vaginal, cesarean, medicated, unmedicated, home, or hospital birth, we support you in whatever path unfolds and help you feel empowered and informed. We believe birth, in all its forms, is a sacred and transformative journey. Transitional support into parenthood is profoundly important. The birth of parents is just as significant and beautiful as the birth of babies. A healthy baby is important, but is not all that matters. The memory, experience and feelings surrounding your birth sets the stage for your transition into parenthood.

In case you needed some sweetness in your day.

If someone you know has a miscarriage, please don’t say…

Don’t say “it wasn’t meant to be.”
Don’t say “everything happens for a reason.”
And definitely don’t say “at least it happened early.”

Because to that mom, it was meant to be.

She already imagined the due date. The name. The tiny fingers.

She already loved that baby more than words could ever explain. 💔

Sometimes silence, a hug, or “I’m so sorry” means more than anything you could ever try to explain!

Nothing has changed with the recent nonsense in the news. Tylenol is still a safe option during pregnancy.

Nothing has changed with the recent nonsense in the news. Tylenol is still a safe option during pregnancy.

The SOGC’s recent position statement reaffirming the safety of acetaminophen use during pregnancy was featured in a CBC News article covering new U.S. government moves to add warnings linking Tylenol to autism.

The SOGC notes that acetaminophen remains a safe and appropriate option for managing fever and pain in pregnancy when used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary time. It also stresses that untreated fever poses its own risks and that the current evidence does not support a causal link between acetaminophen and autism.

Are you surprised to hear that midwifery-led patients admitted their infants into the ER less than obstetrician-led patients (all birthers in the study being healthy first time birthers)? I’m certainly not. The midwifery care model is thorough and personalized to each patient’s needs. Multiple visits to their patient’s home postpartum to check on the families and patients having access to their midwives on a 24/7 call line just might have something to do with this….

Midwifery care =fewer infant emergency visits. Thanks Canada for the study and the model of care! Whole paper here https://obgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/1471-0528.18346?campaign=wolearlyview
