Postal Strike Halts Eganville Leader Deliveries
The ongoing Canada Post strike has brought the delivery of the Eganville Leader to all paid subscribers to a standstill, presenting significant challenges for our community newspaper. Following last November’s strike, which caused mass confusion and disruption in our office, we had resolved not to publish during any future postal service interruptions. However, given our commitment to our readers and our role in keeping the community informed, we have reconsidered and will attempt to navigate this difficult period—with your cooperation.
How We Plan to Move Forward
Each week, the Leader mails approximately 3,800 copies to subscribers and distributes an additional 1,500 to 2,000 through stores across the county. Below are the steps we are taking to ensure you can continue accessing the Eganville Leader during the strike:
1. Free Online Access: All subscribers and community members will have free access to our online edition for the duration of the strike. The digital version is identical to the print edition and can be read on your computer, tablet, or any device you prefer. To access our online edition, go to our website and use the following credentials to login:

2. Increased Store Distribution: We will be increasing the number of newspapers distributed to the 50 outlets throughout Renfrew County.
3. Office Pickup for Local Subscribers: Local subscribers are welcome to pick up their copy at our Eganville office. Please note that papers will not be labelled with addresses, and our print run will be reduced due to the availability of free online access.
4. Subscription Renewals on Hold: We will not be processing any subscription renewals until the strike has ended.
5. Store Policy for Subscribers: Store clerks have no way of verifying if you are a paid subscriber. Please do not dispute with clerks—they are providing an important service for us and our readers. If you wish to express concerns, please direct them to MP Cheryl Gallant’s office. If you are a subscriber and feel unfairly charged, return your copy to our office when you are finished with it for reimbursement.
6. Missed Issues Will Not Be Mailed: We cannot predict how long the strike will last. Once postal service resumes, missed issues will not be mailed retroactively.
A Community Challenge
The postal strike affects not only the Leader, but also all subscription-based newspapers, magazines, and many small businesses across Canada. The strike last November cost the Leader approximately $70,000 in lost income and unexpected expenses. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work through this ongoing challenge.
