People who are very sensitive to remedies may find it hard to avoid slight aggravations or "accessory symptoms" - side effects essentially. There are three ways to avoid this. Dilute your remedy down in water, sniff it, or take it before bed. More details in my blog/video this week.

I haven't done an intro video - thought I'd start with my second "office", since it's where I get to just play. I feel very blessed to be able to unwind in this way

I was told palliation - defined as giving an “anti” treatment (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, etc) - would “drive the pathology deeper” or “make someone worse in the long run!” But the question in my mind was always: “but painkillers get rid of my headache - and I don’t get some horrible disease after using them, and the headache doesn’t immediately come back when the painkiller wear off, so what’s going on?” Well, I recently found what Hahnemann says on the matter in the introduction to O***m in Hahnemann's Materia Medica Pura.

Basically he says that for small, temporary complaints, palliation often works. But there's more details in my post/video this week. See link to my website in my bio (go to resources, blog).

There are two main remedies I think of for healing the incision from a C-section: Arnica and Staphysagria. Arnica is useful in cases of physical trauma where there is lots of bruising, aching, and swelling, and helpful if you have very strong after-pains.

Staphysagria is not only useful for the healing of incisions, but also if the person is grieving, disappointed, and/or angry about how the labor and delivery went. I have frequently seen women who did not want a C-section become indignant, disappointed, and feel like an experience was taken away from them: this is a Staphysagria kind of presentation. So if you are feeling this way, Staphysagria may help you move through your grief, and the physical pain of the surgery, and get back to enjoying your new little bundle❤

If there was ever an aphorism that struck fear into my heart, it's aphorism 11. I remember spending hours pouring over the footnote, feeling like the whole thing was jibberish. I spent so much time fretting over the footnote, I barely ever paid attention to the aphorism itself.

For whatever reason though, I feel the lessons are starting to sink in. And if you break the footnote down into pieces, then it's not so bad. At least after the 100th time reading it.

The aphorism itself seems relatively straightforward: The vital force is what becomes ill, at least in the beginning, not the physical body. And the vital force, when disturbed by a disease, will CREATE the symptoms you experience; the disease itself doesn't create the symptoms.

Hahnemann's materia medicas are relatively unique in that they cite a symptom back to the PRIMARY source of that symptom.

But what about uncited ones?

These are symptoms that Hahnemann collected as the proving MASTER, not necessarily a symptom he experienced himself. This is why you will see uncited symptoms about me**es, "old men", children, etc.

Happy Hahnemann studies!!

I get a lot of questions on social media about what the scope of practice is in Ontario.

Basically, here, homeopaths are not doctors - so no internal examinations (gynes!), no needles, no diagnosis and no lab work.

Our title is protected, so you can only call yourself a homeopath if you register with the College of Homeopaths after finishing an accredited program.

But more deets in my blog and video this week!

Milk supply issues are a common reason for struggling with, or giving up, breastfeeding. Everyone should have the option to choose breastfeeding, if that is what they want to do. I often find it ironic how often people work to be politically correct and make sure they say people have the option to choose formula, and shouldn't be judged by that choice (I agree of course), but we don't always offer the same courtesy to those who want to breastfeed, but struggle. If women struggle, the phrase thrown around seems to be "formula is always a choice, and you won't be judged for it". If they want to breastfeed, free choice means they should have the support to do so - from work, family, and society in terms of access to lactation consultants and other professionals. And I see homeopathy as a potential part of this support - we have remedies (safe for a woman in the early postpartum and for infants) that help with stabilizing milk supply (decreasing it slightly if engorgement or over-supply is an issue) or increasing it if there is not enough. Homeopathy can also help from the babe's side if they are struggling with colic or other issues that can make nursing more challenging (my kid with colic would nurse for 3-4 hours a night without stopping - I kid you not! Definitely not conducive to a nice, comfortable breastfeeding experience for me! Treating him for colic made my breastfeeding experience much easier and more sustainable).

Homeopathy, combined with support from professionals who can adjust the latch etc (i.e. help with mechanical problems), can offer women who want to breastfeed a much easier and more sustainable experience.

For over supply, Pulsatilla, Belladonna and Phytolacca are some options, and for undersupply consider zinc, Agnus Castus or Dulcamara (if the undersupply was triggered by becoming ill). More details in my blog post this week on my website, and I have a video on rubrics in the TBR2 for milk supply issues for the homeopaths out there ❤

What does a beaver and a cause of disease have in common? They both are almost impossible to find.

As I have shared before, I am not a huge fan of tracking down "why" someone is ill (i.e. a cause). We of course must remove "obvious maintaining" causes (aphorism 7) from a person's life - if they have diabetes but eat a full chocolate cake every day, then there is an obvious "maintaining cause" that needs to be addressed. But otherwise, these "causes" are tricky business. And in homeopathy, we don't need to know a cause to treat - we need to know the symptoms, and those tell us what kind of disease we are dealing with.

Beavers are the same.

Beavers are incredibly hard to find in the wild. I know there is one near where I walk my dog in the morning, but I have never seen it. But I know its there because there are downed trees, dammed up areas of the river, and fresh wood chips around tree trunks. In other words, I can know it exists because there are CHARACTERISTIC signs of a beaver. I don't need to see the beaver with my own eyes to know it's there.

This metaphor stops with getting rid of the beaver - we want more beavers, not less!
