Debated posting, then decided, why not.
Since my photoshoot in June for the Saskatchewan Firefighter’s Calendar, I’ve been… Off… hard to explain, but I guess the best word to describe how I was feeling is depleted. Completely depleted. I’d work out and I had my whole reverse diet planned and started following the plan… I was just SO depleted that I had to just cave and eat. At that point it was apparent that I was once again struggling with leptin resistance and my body BADLY needed nutrients. Upon eating as much as needed, my physique became even better than on my calendar picture. Unfortunately, that didn’t last, and much as anticipated since I couldn’t successfully reverse diet, I gained weight. Suddenly my mood was terrible, I kept breaking out on my back, neck, chin and jaw line. I just felt out of sorts still - but fed. Went through the motions for quite some time until I finally decided to track my blood glucose and blood ketones. I guess it’s worth mentioning that I came up with that idea because I read the book Brain Energy by Chris Palmer, MD. Fantastic. No, I’m not diabetic, but clearly tracking blood glucose and ketones has proven successful! I can’t say how much weight I’ve lost since starting because I had to stop weighing myself and driving myself insane. But as I track my BG and ketones, I’m also adjusting macros which I’m only loosely tracking. I’ve been keeping my carbs as close to zero as possible, low to moderate protein (depending on the day), and high fat. I finally feel like I am completely nourishing my body! I’m FINALLY not hungry ALL THE TIME!! I’m trying out cycling my protein to maintain lean mass, lose fat and see how well I can feel. When my protein is around 80-100g/day, I feel better mentally and my energy is through the roof! When I have one of those lower protein days, I do eat lots of fat! (~150g). And lastly, on rest days, I like to fat fast. If you have never heard of it, look it up and check out Kelly Hogan! Finally, after 3-4 weeks like this, I feel like I’m getting somewhere with my health and my body seems to be cooperating overall!
I’m just sharing my experience, this is NOT medical advice!!
