Society tries to make older women invisible, because their wisdom makes them powerful. The world fears what it cannot control, and a woman who knows herself is unstoppable.
As I get older, I’m beginning to see this more clearly.
Some of the most powerful women in my life are the elders. Women who have lived fully. Women who have loved, grieved, started again, and learned the quiet truths that only time can teach.
There is a steadiness to them. A grounded presence. They no longer need to prove who they are to the world.
There was a time when elders were honoured as wisdom keepers. Their stories, their perspective, their lived experience were valued.
Yet somewhere along the way, much of our Western patriarchal culture began telling women a different story… that we should stay young, stay pleasing, stay quiet.
I’m over it! It’s time for change!
The older I get, the more I see the gift of these years. The crone season was never meant to be invisible. It was meant to be wise.
So on this International Women’s Day, I’m honouring the women who have come before us - the truth tellers, the wisdom keepers, the ones who remind us that a woman who knows herself carries a kind of power the world cannot easily silence.
May we continue to honour the wisdom of women in every season of life. 💜
