There’s a version of the holidays that gets talked about a lot: the sparkle, the warmth, the lights, the cheer.

And then there’s the side that’s mentioned less but experienced by many. The emotional labour, the pressure to bring the magic to life, to show up, to have it all together, and to keep pushing even when the season feels heavy.

The holidays can hold joy, fun, and connection.

And maybe there’s a part of you that wants that.

But maybe there’s also another part that feels the financial strain, the pressure of making everything happen, and the exhaustion of balancing schedules when December fills up fast.

And we haven’t even touched on family dynamics here!

When pushing through feels like the only option, it can help to pause and notice what your body and nervous system actually need.

Honouring your need for rest isn’t giving up.

Reaching capacity isn’t failure. It’s being human.

We know that stigma can prevent those in need from reaching out for therapy. We also know that preconceived ideas and beliefs can be a barrier to parents seeking out the support their child needs.

We hope that, in the same way that mental health is becoming less taboo for adults, supporting emotional and mental wellbeing in children will become more and more commonplace.

Every week, parents sit across from therapists and say things like, “He gets so angry. It’s chaotic. But teen boys will do that, hormones and all! That’s normal, right? He doesn’t need counselling. He’s not crazy!” There is often a quiet pause after that sentence, the kind filled with gu...

Perimenopause is a major midlife shift that affects women’s bodies, moods, and daily lives. Hormones, stress, body image, and past experiences can all collide, making this stage feel overwhelming. Understanding how these pieces fit together shows why support and compassion matter so much.

Help your child build a healthy relationship with food by dropping “good” and “bad” labels. Kids take words literally, and moral language can fuel guilt, secrecy, or rigid eating. A neutral, descriptive approach supports intuitive eating, body trust, and long-term well-being. Learn simple swaps like “all foods fit” and “what will keep you full longer,” and see how flexible food talk nurtures confidence and connection.

Why Neutral Food Language Matters for Kids Kids take words literally. Replace moral labels with neutral guidance to support confidence, balanced choices, and long-term well-being. Learn simple swaps.

The holidays can be a lot when you’re surrounded by old food and body talk, and it’s ok to protect your food peace this season.

You’re allowed to:
🧁 @ # the dessert
❄️ Step outside for air
🙅‍♀️ Change the subject
💬 Say “I don’t really talk about food that way anymore”

Horses share non-verbal cues that can help us explore and understand what we are feeling

11/22/2025

Look familiar? We see this every day. Teens who really don’t want to be in the room can feel intimidating, but building trust is everything (and being even a little bit cool definitely helps).

After years in schools and in behavioural work, I’ve seen how quickly kids open up when they feel understood. So we take our time. Connection comes before any deep dive. And honestly, sometimes resistance is as simple as ‘my mom made me come and I don’t like her right now’. Once that’s named, things can actually move.

We offer options like play therapy, art therapy, walk-and-talk, and equine connections to avoid the whole ‘sit here while I stare into your soul’ vibe. Young people open up when the space feels safe, flexible, and genuinely human.

Play therapy looks like simple play on the outside, but it’s actually one of the most effective ways for kids to process emotions and build healthy coping skills. Through toys, stories, art, and imagination, children can express what they don’t yet have words for.

Because the therapist joins the child in their world, play therapy creates space for parallel conversations and connection without the pressure or power dynamics of traditional talk therapy. It helps kids feel safe, understood, and in control as they explore feelings, practice new skills, and strengthen relationships.

What looks like play is truly meaningful work.
