I will no longer be doing any large scale or mural painting in Saskatchewan. It’s been a long hard journey in deciding what is good for my mental health and spiritual well being.

Unfortunately my work in public art as a muralist has reached its capacity. I can no longer self sustain my work here.

I will continue my facilitation arts practice with youth and students in addition to wrapping up all grants and mural projects that I have already committed to. My focus here trying to rally for public art projects and initiatives will be put on pause.

I have spent the last five years consulting for free and supporting folks through the grant process.

I appreciate everyone’s kindness and support. I won’t be painting murals in Saskatchewan until I feel confident folks are ready and understand the needs of public art projects, from both an equitable, sustainable and respectful place for artists to grow and thrive.

My artistic bank doing it ALL is now on E here in the public realm. The red tape and conservative policies, while some folks unfairly occupy space in councils and municipal spaces. Is not longer my job to teach or build relationship.

It’s time for me to spread wings and offer my professional value and experience elsewhere.

Thank you to communities who have had both forward thinking and have come to the table with sustenance,
Warmth and kindness. I refuse to perpetuate this narrative of a starving artist.

With love,

Stephanie
