Here’s an interesting one for you all!
Not going to lie - the first time I had this happen a couple years ago, I didn’t know what I was seeing or why there was still movement in the muscles after the PEMF session was finished, which led to a lot of research.
Here’s why a horses muscles may still have movement after a PEMF session is complete:
✨Residual Cellular Stimulation - PEMF therapy works on a cellular level by affecting how ions - such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium - move across cell membranes. After a session ends, the cells continue adjusting and returning to balance, which can cause slight muscle activity even once the machine is turned off.
✨ Neuromuscular Release: PEMF pulses can affect how responsive nerves and muscles are. Any lingering movement afterward may simply be the body releasing stored muscle tension or the nervous system continuing to “reset” following the stimulation.
✨ Increased Circulation and Detoxification: PEMF enhances cellular metabolism, supports better blood flow, and encourages lymphatic drainage, helping the body clear out waste products and toxins such as lactic acid. As these byproducts are flushed from the tissue, you may see ongoing twitching or rippling.
✨Addressing Sensitive Areas: Twitching often appears more prominently in spots with existing inflammation, tightness, or scar tissue. Any lingering movement is typically a sign that these areas are still responding to improved circulation and reduced inflammation.
