Our President, Dr. Anne Laurie, was awarded the Inclusive Innovator of the Year at the 2025 Mitacs Innovation Awards, held at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa — one of Canada’s most prestigious national research awards.

Mitacs is a national organization that supports research, innovation, and collaboration between universities, industry, and communities across Canada.

From presenting our research to MPs in Parliament, to standing alongside exceptional innovators from across the country, this recognition highlights the impact of the Curriculum-Based Dynamic Assessment (CBDA) and our mission to create equitable language assessment for all children.

Thank you to our collaborators and the communities who believe in this work.

Today is 3 December, International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The 2025 theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” calls on all of us to build communities where everyone can participate, belong and thrive.

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) affects many children, yet remains largely unknown. Because DLD is not explicitly named in most disability policies or education legislation, children with DLD often go unrecognized or are misidentified. As a result, they may fall through the cracks, without the support and accommodations they need.

Recognizing DLD by name would create access to accommodations, early intervention, and equal opportunity. Everyone deserves the dignity, opportunity, and a voice that comes from being seen and understood.

Aujourd’hui, 3 décembre, c’est la Journée internationale des personnes handicapées. Le thème 2025 « Favoriser des sociétés inclusives pour les personnes handicapées afin de stimuler le progrès social » rappelle que le développement social repose sur l’inclusion de toutes et tous.

Le Trouble développemental du langage (TDL) touche de nombreux enfants, mais demeure largement méconnu. Comme le terme TDL n’apparaît pas dans la plupart des politiques et lois sur le handicap, beaucoup d’enfants ne sont pas identifiés ou sont mal diagnostiqués. Ils peuvent alors passer entre les mailles du filet, sans les soutiens ni les aménagements nécessaires.

Reconnaître explicitement le TDL permettrait un meilleur accès aux aménagements, à l’intervention précoce et à l’égalité des chances. Chaque enfant mérite d’être vu, entendu et compris.
