Here is a lil bit about us and what we have open right now:

Gulf Islands Families Together Society (GIFTS) is a charitable non-profit organization that supports people with diverse abilities by recognizing and facilitating their right to employment, social, recreational and educational access, and housing in their community. GIFTS strengthens community on Salt Spring by supporting people with disabilities to apply their individual talents and experience to tackling challenges such as staffing shortages, social inclusion, skills development and housing. Governed by a volunteer board of directors, consisting of family members, self-advocates and community members.

GIFTS has two opportunities currently:
Support Worker, for a Thursday shift 11:00am to 7:00pm.
In this role you will assist individuals with their personal care, and their day to day commitments and programming. Support workers will work as members of a team with the individual, their family and/or caregivers. Reporting to the Executive Director of GIFTS and supported individual.

Support Worker with a background in nursing (LPN/RN) for a regular 8 hour shift on Wednesdays and/or Fridays, with potential additional needs as respite for the parent or relief for other staff.
In this role you will assist individuals with their personal care, and their day to day commitments and programming. Support workers will work as members of a team with the individual, their family and/or caregivers. They will report to the Executive Director of GIFTS and to the parent/legal guardian.

A gentle reminder for us all ✨ Judging people by the way they look can be described as low resolution thinking. A fleeting moment of seeing someone at the grocery store does not give us enough information on their well being. Please welcome our new Administrative Coordinator Michael! 🥳 He’s really excited to join us at GIFTS and support folks who are making a difference in our community. Working closely with Amanda, he’s inspired to focus on relationship building. Michael is an established professional actor who runs his own little acting school in Vancouver. Three years ago he decided to make the jump from big city life to island living here on Salt Spring.
