Perimenopause & Menopause: What Is Happening To Me?

Perimenopause & Menopause: What Is Happening To Me? Meeting women where they are — helping them thrive through perimenopause & menopause, not just survive. Real talk. Real support.

Supporting women thrive through perimenopause + menopause with confidence and clarity. Helping women feel like themselves again. Reclaiming My Health, My Work, and My Self...

When I decided to take time away from work, I thought I was just pressing pause. But what I was really doing was pressing reset. I needed space to pause, reflect, and realign — a journey I know will continue to unfold, teaching me something new about myself every single day. Health and wellness have always been close to my heart. From a young age, I struggled with being overweight, and because of that, my weight, wellness, and mental health have always been at the forefront of every choice I made. It shaped how I moved through the world and how I came to understand that real health is about so much more than numbers — it’s about connection, compassion, and listening to what your body needs. Over the past couple of years, my menopause journey has been one hell of a storm — chaotic, revealing, and deeply transformative. It stripped me down and rebuilt me, showing me what strength, vulnerability, and healing truly look like. Now, I’m bringing everything I’ve learned into my work. I’ve shifted my business from primarily business coaching to include Holistic Perimenopause and Menopause Health Coaching, and I’m proud to now be a Certified Holistic Perimenopause and Menopause Health Coach, currently working toward completing the Holistic Nutrition Weight Loss Coach Program. This next chapter isn’t just about me — it’s about helping other women navigate this same path with knowledge, compassion, and confidence. Whether it’s understanding what’s going on in your body, finding your balance again, or simply feeling like yourself — I want to help you get there. I’ve learned more about myself during this time than I ever imagined — and I’m endlessly grateful for the space to think, heal (we’ll talk about that soon 😉), and truly honour what my body needs in this next phase of life. This is the next chapter of my story — and I’m excited to share how I got here, where I go from here, and hopefully, how I can help you along the way. 💛

Cortisol low. Dopamine HIGH. 🔥💃
This is the kind of movement we actually need in perimenopause.

My first hip hop class at West Perth Dance Club and I left feeling lit up, grounded, and buzzing in the best way. Fun, rhythmic, no pressure, no burnout energy — just move, sweat, laugh, repeat. Nervous system = very happy.

Huge thanks to Marcie, Drew & Grace for running such a great class, breaking down the moves, and jumping in to show us how it’s done. Watching you dance was straight-up dopamine.

Now I can’t wait to have a full-on hip hop dance party in my kitchen 🕺
See you next week 🖤🔥

For a long time I thought menopause meant hot flashes and no period.

What I didn’t understand was perimenopause — the hormonal transition before menopause that can begin years earlier and often shows up in ways no one talks about.

✔ Period or no period
✔ Hot flashes or none
✔ Symptoms that don’t look the same for everyone

If you’ve felt “off” and haven’t been able to put your finger on why — this might be the missing piece.

I’m hosting a free info session this Tuesday where I’ll walk through what perimenopause actually is, common symptoms, and what supportive, realistic care can look like.

I can’t share the actual news article because of the new Canadian rules around news links — but I CAN share what it talked about just yesterday (Feb 3, 2026).

And it matters.

The story explained how so many Canadians are turning to private menopause clinics and paying out of pocket because they can’t get the help they need through the regular health care system.

Women are waiting months - YEARS to be seen.

They’re feeling rushed in appointments.

Their symptoms are brushed off.

And they’re left trying to figure it all out on their own.

So they end up paying privately just to be heard.

Reading that hit me hard — because I lived it.

That is exactly why I chose to become a CERTIFIED Holistic Perimenopause + Menopause Health Coach.

Not to offer quick fixes.

Not to sell trendy supplements.

Not to throw band-aids at big, complicated changes.

But to walk alongside women in a whole-body, long-term, realistic way.

To actually listen.

To look at lifestyle, stress, sleep, nutrition, movement, mindset — the full picture.

And to help women feel better without harmful or hype-driven “solutions.”

So many of us just want guidance, support, and someone who truly understands what’s happening.

That’s the gap I’m here to help fill.

My approach is simple:
• I meet you where you are
• I look at the whole picture
• I focus on long-term success

Just real, sustainable, compassionate support that actually helps you feel better in your real life.

A few years ago, I hit a wall I didn’t even see coming:

I was exhausted in a way sleep couldn’t fix.

My moods felt unpredictable.

My body didn’t feel like mine anymore.

Brain fog became my constant companion.

And some days I’d look in the mirror and barely recognize myself.

So I did what most of us do when something feels “off.”

I tried everything.

Strength training harder than I ever had.

Intermittent fasting.

Supplements. Superfoods.

HRT. Birth control.

Anti-depressants. Anti-anxiety meds.

No gluten. No dairy.

More water. Better skin creams.

Test after test. Scan after scan.

Talk therapy. Horse therapy.

Ketamine therapy. Meditation. Yoga.

Walking. Resistance training.

And yes… drinking. That really helped a lot. NOT.

I was throwing everything at the wall hoping something would stick. Include lots of $$.

And still I had brain fog so thick I felt like I was moving through mud.

Things that used to be easy suddenly didn’t make sense.

I’d be driving or walking and feel completely disconnected, wondering who was even operating my body.

Disassociation. Confusion. Fatigue. Anxiety.

The past five years have been rough.

The last two? I would honestly put in the category of hellish.

What made it worse was realizing how little real, clear support there was for women going through this stage of life. So much noise. So many "opinions". So many "quick fixes".

That’s when I made a decision. I didn’t want to become another “wellness guru” on the internet tossing out trendy tips and miracle promises.

I wanted proper training. Real education. A deeper understanding of what was actually happening in women’s bodies during perimenopause and menopause.

So I became a Certified Holistic Perimenopause & Menopause Health Coach.

Because women deserve more than guesswork.

More than random advice.

More than being told “it’s just stress", "it's part of life".

That journey is what led me to create my 6-week online series starting Feb 10th.

In the first free session, I’m sharing what I wish someone had explained to me years ago:
- Why our bodies change
- Why our brains feel different
- Why weight shifts to the middle
- Why stress suddenly hits harder
- And how to start working WITH your body instead of fighting it.
- No extremes. No shame. No gimmicks.

Just real information and real support from someone who has walked this road and took the time to get trained to help others do the same.

If any part of this sounds familiar, I’d love to have you join me on Feb 10th.

If Feb 10th doesn't work for you, or you'd like to connect 1:1, please feel free to dm or email me: gensmith01@gmail.com.

Soft seasons still count.
Quiet progress still matters.
And choosing yourself, even gently. That is still choosing growth.

This is your reminder that you don’t have to hustle your healing.
Small shifts. Deep breaths. One moment at a time.

🌿 Less force
🌿 More presence
🌿 Real nourishment: body, mind, nervous system

If you’re in your middle season… you’re doing it right.
