Trigger point injections (TPI) are a targeted treatment used to release tight, overactive muscles, often referred to as “knots.” When a trigger point is active, it can restrict movement, alter muscle function, and contribute to ongoing pain.

At Prime, trigger point injections are performed using ultrasound guidance. This allows us to visualize the tissue in real time and place the injection precisely where it’s needed, improving accuracy and safety, especially in sensitive areas such as the neck.

TPI can be used as a stand-alone treatment for acute muscle spasm, such as waking up with a kink in the neck or straining the back while lifting. It can also be used alongside rehabilitation to help address longer-standing movement patterns and support more durable improvements in function.

Conditions that may benefit from trigger point injections include muscular neck and back pain, whiplash or strain injuries, headaches, TMJ pain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, concussion-related symptoms, and muscular pain that has not responded to conservative treatment.

Every patient is different. Some conditions improve significantly with a single treatment, while others benefit from a series of treatments with gradual, stepwise improvement, typically spaced two or more weeks apart.

After treatment, a brief period of soreness or stiffness can occur. Acetaminophen or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen may be used if appropriate. Icing the area, staying well hydrated, and gradually returning to normal range-of-motion activities can help support recovery.

Trigger point injections are an MSP-insured service. There is no cost for the procedure itself. In some cases, the medication used may be billed on a cost-recovery basis.

A lot of people think chiropractic care is just a quick adjustment for back pain.

In reality, it’s a long-term approach to supporting joint health, nervous system function, recovery, and performance. It’s not just about responding to pain when it shows up, but about improving how the body functions over time.

Chiropractic care can be used to support injury prevention, guide recovery after injury, and help people move and perform better in their day-to-day lives.

Rather than using pain alone as the marker of success, progress is tracked through changes in movement, function, and overall resilience. The goal is lasting improvement, not temporary relief.

Melatonin isn’t always the sleep solution people think it is.

Melatonin is a hormone your brain naturally produces to help signal that it’s time to sleep. Darkness triggers its release from the pineal gland as part of your normal sleep-wake rhythm.

When higher doses of melatonin are taken regularly on top of what your body already produces, it can interfere with that natural signalling. Over time, the brain may rely more on supplementation and less on its own production, which can make sleep harder without it.

Because of this, melatonin is best reserved for specific situations, such as short-term use for jet lag or, in some cases, shift work.

For ongoing sleep support, focusing on nervous system regulation and circadian health is often more effective. Options like magnesium threonate, which crosses the blood-brain barrier, or calming supports in the evening may be more appropriate for some people. Simple habits, including light exposure and stimulant timing earlier in the day, also matter.
