Happy Summer!
Summer is one of my favourite seasons (I LOVE fire element) but it’s turning into my busy season as the kids are getting older, so I’ll be posting a little less frequently.

If you’re wanting to come for treatments during the summer I strongly recommend you prebook your appointments, and you can always place yourself on my waitlist if you can’t find a time.

(And who else misses the old Instagram? Just simple photos, no fancy edits…I sure do so here’s a simple single photo 😆)

This is one of the most frequently seen patterns for acupuncturists. Something Chinese Medicine is SO above and beyond with, is recognizing how our emotional states affect our physical body. (This medicine has been talking about this fact for centuries!)

Swipe the slides to learn a little more about this common pattern, and to see if you recognize any of the symptoms in yourself!

This cold season has been particularly harsh, and knowing whether you have a “hot-cold” or a “cold-cold” can help you to pick home remedies that will give you greater comfort.

Want a home tea recipe for each “hot-colds” and “cold-colds”? Give this post a like and I’ll share two quick and easy remedies you can easily make at home.

One of my favourite strengths of Chinese Medicine is how it looks at illness and health. Instead of colds being caused just by a cold virus or bacteria, there is consideration the external pathogenic factor as well as the health of your body’s defensive qi (you can think of this like the immune system). If that system is weaker, you will feel like you catch every bug going around!

If this is you, fear not!
We can use acupuncture, lifestyle & dietary changes, and herbs to help support this area of your body.

If you’d like a more detailed approach to your health, book in with your local registered acupuncturist! If you’re local to me, you can book at gfacu.ca.

Colds and flu season is upon us! Save this for when you start to feel that dreaded tickle in the throat! 🤧

Location tips: C7=7th cervical vertebra. Find this by feeling down your neck. The first “bump”(aka spinous process) you feel, hold and look up at the ceiling. If the bump disappears, this is the 6th cervical vertebra, move to the spinous process below this for C7. The point is found just below that bump.

🌟Use acupressure at this point the moment you start to feel a cold or flu coming on.

Acupuncturist pro tip: Prone to colds? Wear a scarf or turtleneck to keep this area of your neck protected during cool, windy days.

There’s much to explain about how TCM views the cause of disease, so if that’s something you’re interested in, comment “🦠“ and I’ll share all about it!

Sustainable little shifts > win or bust. Just a lil reminder from your neighbourhood acupuncturist + recovering perfectionist, to embrace the slow path to victory for long lasting success!

And I hope you enjoy the unfiltered look at our garden today, compared to what it looked like when we first moved in. Is it where I want it? No! But it’s SO much better than before! And isn’t this a perfect metaphor for our health goals? Little steps, with small achievable changes and one year later it’s already unrecognizable!

So gentle encouragement from me to you - keep going, you’ve got this!

As Late Summer is shifting closer to Fall, you are probably feeling the change in your body as well! It’s time to start slowing down the pace from Summer & get ready for Winter.

Double tap if you love the shift to Autumn 🥰❤️
Here’s a couple tips from your local acupuncturist to help make this shift easier in your body!

🍁Fall is all about taking in what we need and letting go of what we don’t. Gardening is a great example of this-time to harvest then put the beds to rest for the season. Are there other areas of your life that could use this?
🍁We’re moving from warmer-damp weather to cooler-dry. Take care of your digestion by switching from raw, cold meals to warm, gently cooked ones. Poached pears with a little cinnamon and honey are a delicious moistening seasonal meal!
🍁Our energy changes in Fall from Summer’s buzz and vibrant socialization, to a quieter purposeful drive. It’s ok to socialize less and slow down the pace as you get things accomplished and organized!
🍁It’s the Metal time of year, and there may be heightened feelings of melancholy or grief & sadness. All of the emotions are healthy and normal to experience but if you’re having troubles moving through these acupuncture can help!

Wishing everyone a smooth return to the school year! And for anyone needing a little extra help with this transition, give this point a try!
This is great for parents AND students where the stress is showing up as tightness in the chest, palpitations, shortness of breath, or difficulty vocalizing those worries. ❤️‍🩹

Give this a try, and if you need more help with stress &/or anxiety relief you can always book online at gfacu.ca for an individualized approach!

Pain often has deeper connections than we realize. For example, digestion, sleep, and emotions can impact how your muscles and joints feel. And remember, what happens in one joint can affect another.

We’re beautifully connected—physically, mentally, and spiritually—so understanding symptoms means considering the whole picture.

(And sure-maybe not EVERYTHING is connected, ex. accidents, but we still look at your whole system to help you heal faster!)

Lets talk about 3 things you can do to make sure you get the most out of your acupuncture treatments:

1. Follow your treatment plan. Spreading appointments out too far too soon can allow for progress to slow.
2. Improper rest to activity ratio, aka always on the go, or, not moving enough. We need a balance to keep our tissues healthy. After treatment, this is especially important. Move gently (think a walk, gentle stretching/mobility) but nothing overly strenuous.
3. Eating and drinking enough. Obviously important, even more so after your treatment. We’re asking a lot of your body, and healing requires hydration and nutrients.

The bottom line though is we’re all human and we’re not going to do everything perfectly every time - don’t beat yourself up! Try your best though and you’ll be getting the most out of your acupuncture appointments!
