Hey!

Do you have a young one, aged 7-9 or 10-12? Would learning about positive communication strategies be helpful? How about ways to use them? Opportunities to practice?

Communication is a broad stroke of the brush. Sure-we all make noise with our face. 🤣.

Have your young one join a small group of others, share time with an experienced and educated facilitator, and feel better prepared for the nuances of communication in our ever-changing world.

One guarantee: participants will not be refining their texting skills. 🥳

Find the common thread. Be your own “algorithm” and sit with each of the quotes, dig in as to what it means to you, avoid googling what it means to others, and find a common theme amongst them.

Then, and only then, should you put your thoughts out to the world and “check in”.

Sometimes this activity feels “ridiculous”. Others…how the start of a therapeutic journey can feel like.

A great therapist will sit with you, ask you more about “that”, seek an understanding that you’ve held, and be curious about how these thoughts became reasons.

Sitting down with a great therapist feels like telling a snapshot of your life story and feeling heard and understood that there is more to come.

I agree with Dr. Grant.

Happiness is a construct. We put this state together in different ways when we’re aware of the joy we bring to our intrinsic activities and the satisfaction we feel from the extrinsic ones.

Toxic happiness is led by denial. Joy is sought. Connection to loving others is authentic and passed on unconsciously between us. Mindfulness teaches us to have attention for these intrinsic states.

Being present is easy to say. Hence why we are not always that good at joy.

Consider something. Our post suggests the terms of sensitive and vulnerable. These can be hard terms for many adults to appreciate when their little person is clenching fists and leaning forward.

What if those same adults understood the experience as pain? What if those same fists and lean are triggers because they too, had experienced this pain in the past.

You may have more in common at that point than not.

If we recognized these anger or anxiety spaces as “pain”, how would we handle them differently?

Spoiler Alert: it is pain.
