Most people don’t even know this muscle exists.
Yet it affects how you move, breathe, stand, and handle stress.
It’s called the psoas, often referred to as the “muscle of the soul.”
It’s the only muscle that directly connects your upper body to your lower body. It runs from your lower spine, through your pelvis, and attaches to your thigh bone.
It influences more than most people realize.
Stress:
The psoas is tied to your fight-or-flight response. When you’re stressed, it tightens. Chronic stress often means a chronically tight psoas.
Breathing:
The psoas weaves into the diaphragm. When it’s tight, breathing becomes shallow and restricted.
Posture:
It stabilizes the spine and pelvis. If alignment is off, your posture and movement start to compensate.
The key thing most people miss.
You can’t just stretch the psoas and expect it to release.
If the pelvis or spine is out of alignment, the psoas tightens to protect the body. It’s not the problem; it’s trying to stabilize you.
Real change often comes from addressing the whole system.
Restoring pelvic and spinal alignment helps the body feel stable again, while calming the nervous system through breath work and EFT can reduce the fight-or-flight response that keeps the psoas locked tight.
When the body feels safe, the psoas finally lets go.
Breathing deepens, posture improves, and movement feels natural again.
The body just needs the right signal.
