You have suffered a loss. It may be a death, a health crisis, a job loss or change in relationship or family dynamics. Anything. It has shaken you and you are struggling with it. It may take a while before you get to a point when you realise you could really use some help. But who? A grief counsellor? A support group? Maybe you don’t know where to find them. Maybe you aren’t ready for that...but you could really use SOMETHING.
Years ago I recognised a gap between the services provided at the time of a loss, and the services provided by Counsellors and Therapists. Often, even when someone is ready to seek counselling, it may take weeks to get an appointment and then all that was needed was to tell their story, maybe be validated that the process they are experiencing is normal and they aren’t alone...maybe a few suggestions to help them find their bearings. They didn’t need counselling after all...but it sure felt good to talk to someone. Unfortunately, they had a long wait to find out, and took up the time of a counsellor when they really didn’t have to.
Recently I realised I could do something to fill that gap. What if I could offer that listening ear. Maybe that is all that is required, but if more is needed, I could assess that and help find the resource(s) or support(s) that might be the best fit for the circumstances and people involved.
Swallowtales Grief Support was created. I am no expert on grief but I have had a lot of practise at it. As human beings we gravitate to those who have had similar experiences. I know what it is like to grieve. I know what it is like to come up out of the pain and not only survive...but thrive! I have taken training in providing care for the injured of body, mind and spirit. Among many other things, I am a former EMT, a former RN, a certified Health and Wellness Coach, and a funeral celebrant/officiant. I have not only walked the walk...experienced a variety of losses and the grief that came with them...but I am certified in grief support.
