For many people, the Christmas season is not easy. Grief, loss, change, lonliness, illness or memories of what once was can make this time of year feel heavy instead of joyful. This Blue Christmas service offers a gentle pause in the busyness of the season - a quiet, reflective space to acknowledge and honour those feelings.
This service is for anyone who has experienced loss at anytime in their life, whether recent or long past. It is a time to name what we carry, to sit with it without judgement and to remember that all emotions are welcome here.
This gathering is non- denominational and open to all. It is more of a spiritual experience focused on compassion, reflection and connection rather than through religious doctrine. Through simple words, music, silence, candle light, and this year I will offering again a simple water ceremony you are welcome to participate in if you wish, we create space for grief, remembrance and hope - held together with care.
You are welcome exactly as you are.
It can be difficult to get here. If you know of someone who would find value in this, invite them to come with you...it makes it easier to walk through these open doors. Please share, please contact someone and say, "I want to attend this, will you come with me?"

The ice lanterns will make an appearance for this event.

Several years ago I witnessed a miracle. It was a cold sunny December day and the air had frost crystals in it. This created “sundogs” that were vibrant and amazing. I kept my eyes on them as much as I could as I drove through the city to my friend’s house as she was going to cut my hair. When I arrived, parked and got out of my car, I went and stood in the middle of the quiet residential street and stared at the sky in awe. In front of me was the sun with 2 brilliant sun dogs on either side. There was a shimmering stream of light going straight up from the sun and straight down from the sun as well as straight sideways connecting the sundogs to the sun. I followed the stream of light with my eyes and turned slowly until I saw what had been behind me. A direct and clear mirror image of the sun and sundogs! I continued to follow the light as I turned and saw every light image connected perfectly. Looking straight above my head I saw the stream of light that went up from the sun went over the top of the sky to connect with the stream of light from the sun’s mirror image behind me. I was standing in the centre of a perfect parahelic rainbow! Like a Glorious crown covering me. I just took it in as it faded. Never again will I likely see that sgain snd I just embraced it ss it happened. I felt bad for sll the busy people who could have been eitness to it but didn’t notice. No photos of it as it was before cell phones had proper cameras. But the image below comes pretty close.

Swallowtales Grief Support

You have suffered a loss. It may be a death, a health crisis, a job loss or change in relationship or family dynamics. Anything. It has shaken you and you are struggling with it. It may take a while before you get to a point when you realise you could really use some help. But who? A grief counsellor? A support group? Maybe you don’t know where to find them. Maybe you aren’t ready for that...but you could really use SOMETHING.

Years ago I recognised a gap between the services provided at the time of a loss, and the services provided by Counsellors and Therapists. Often, even when someone is ready to seek counselling, it may take weeks to get an appointment and then all that was needed was to tell their story, maybe be validated that the process they are experiencing is normal and they aren’t alone...maybe a few suggestions to help them find their bearings. They didn’t need counselling after all...but it sure felt good to talk to someone. Unfortunately, they had a long wait to find out, and took up the time of a counsellor when they really didn’t have to.

Recently I realised I could do something to fill that gap. What if I could offer that listening ear. Maybe that is all that is required, but if more is needed, I could assess that and help find the resource(s) or support(s) that might be the best fit for the circumstances and people involved.

Swallowtales Grief Support was created. I am no expert on grief but I have had a lot of practise at it. As human beings we gravitate to those who have had similar experiences. I know what it is like to grieve. I know what it is like to come up out of the pain and not only survive...but thrive! I have taken training in providing care for the injured of body, mind and spirit. Among many other things, I am a former EMT, a former RN, a certified Health and Wellness Coach, and a funeral celebrant/officiant. I have not only walked the walk...experienced a variety of losses and the grief that came with them...but I am certified in grief support.
