Ms Infinity Ontario Building a community. One-day, free conference for students in grades 9 - 12! Are you female-identifying and interested in science? Join our community!

Explore the opportunities in science, health care, technology, and engineering (STEM). This page offers a place for girls in high school to learn more about careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), and for girls out of high school in College, University, and beyond, to stay connected and engage in the exploration and promotion of women in STEM. Ms Infinity offers a one day conference, as well as opportunities to get involved (other than fun posts).

1) One day conference / workshop

Are you a high school girl who is interested in science? Are you a high school girl who isn't sure if they like science, or not? Join us for the annual Ms Infinity conference to interact with women in science to learn about their jobs, and how they got there. You will also get a chance to try out different types of science with hands on activities and interactive presentations. This conference is free! Open to all girls in high school. Our 6th annual conference will be hosted this Spring. Details to come!

2) Get involved! Help organize the conference, join the committee, represent women in STEM as a speaker or workshop coordinator. We are also always looking for women in science to volunteer to help coordinate, organize and run this event. If you are a women currently in undergrad, grad school, or have a career in STEM we would love your help! For more information, please email register.msinfinityontario@gmail.com

Just popping on here to remind you all that we are thinking of you and holding space for everyone at this time đź’ś We sure missed seeing all of your faces in May, but it will only make it that much more sweet when we can see you again! Gentle reminder to take care, and take things slow as things start to re-open!

To our Ms Infinity Fam!

In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and under the guidance of The World Health Organization (WHO) and Canadian public health authorities, it is with a very heavy heart (but a smart brain because ) that our team has made the decision to cancel the Ms Infinity Ontario 2020 Conference.

We recognize these are unprecedented times, but ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our participants, volunteers, and our speakers is the highest priority to our team! Our team is so proud of the work that we had started in developing this year's program and we are already excited to see you all in 2021!

Be safe, wash your hands, and stay home (and when you can't 6ft is the magic number)!! But most importantly, take care and BE KIND to yourself and others!

And thank you to ALL of our essential workers that can't stay home right now!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team either on social media or at register.msinfinityontario@gmail.com!

Stay safe and see you next year xx

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY!!!!

International Womens day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and is celebrated on March 8.

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is, “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”.

The Generation Equality campaign is bringing together people of every gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion and country, to drive actions that will create a gender-equal world that so many strong women have fought for before us!

Here are five women who made it their life's mission to make the world a better place through environmental activism.

Happy Saturday Ms Infinity fam! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far! I thought what better way to start our Saturday then with some cool new science!

Artificial intelligence is a field of study that has become the talk of the town, and I have hopped on the band wagon along with many others! It's absolutely fascinating.

AI is an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans. AI technology is increasingly being used to support scientists and researchers. In other words, AI can cruise through tons of data, highlighting anomalies and detecting patterns that humans could never have spotted.

Recently, researchers used AI technology to identify a powerful new antibiotic compound. The computer model, which can screen more than a hundred million chemical compounds in a matter of days, is designed to pick out potential antibiotics that kill bacteria using different mechanisms than those of existing drugs.

In lab tests, the drug killed many of the world's most problematic disease-causing bacteria, including some strains that are resistant to all known antibiotics. COOL.

How is it already middle of February?! We are back and excited for Ms Infinity Ontario 2020, so stay tuned for more details as our planning committee brings together exciting workshops and speakers for you :)

In celebration of last week being International women in science day (better late than never right?) I thought there was nothing better than to kick off our first post gearing up for our 2020 conference than to celebrate the landing of Christina Koch, a NASA astronaut who set a historical record for the longest single spaceflight done by a woman!! She spent 42 hours and 15 mins outside the station, and participated in six spacewalks, three of which were the first all female space walks.

Not only will her time in space give insight into the effects of space travel on women, but while she was up there her and the rest of her team members conducted hundreds of experiments in Earth science, human research, physical sciences and technology development, including improvements to the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer in an effort to extend its life and support its mission of looking for evidence of dark matter and testing 3D biological printers to print organ-like tissues in microgravity!! Okay. COOL.

Hope everyone's 2020 started off with a bang! Happy Wednesday and have a great week!!

After setting a record for the longest single spaceflight in history by a woman, NASA astronaut Christina Koch returned to Earth Thursday, along with Soyuz Commander Alexander Skvortsov of the Russian space agency Roscosmos and Luca Parmitano of ESA (European Space Agency).

Edith Widder is the founder of the Ocean Research & Conservation Association which is dedicated to protecting aquatic ecosystems and the species they sustain. She helps design and invent new equipment to study bioluminescence to be able to observe deep-sea environments including, most recently, the first video ever recorded of the giant squid, Architeuthis, in its natural habitat.

So if you didn't think the ocean was cool enough already, take a few minutes and watch Edith Widder share her love of the remarkable species that create art even in the deep sea!

And just a reminder our annual conference is only a couple of weeks away! Registration is still open and the form can be completed with the link below or send us an email or message for more information! We look forward to seeing you on the 11th and stay tuned for more information :)

In the deep, dark ocean, many sea creatures make their own light for hunting, mating and self-defense. Bioluminescence expert Edith Widder was one of the first to film this glimmering world. At TED2011, she brings some of her glowing friends onstage, and shows more astonishing footage of glowing und...

We love the quote "nerds get to go to space"!

At age three, Anne McClain wanted to go to space. Did you know what you wanted to do at 3 years old?! Some of did, others didn't! There are so many fields to go into, sometimes learning more and talking to others about their experiences help.

Hmm 🤔 where could you do this??

** If you're in high school, or know someone who is, encourage them to register for this years Ms Infinity Ontairo conference! Learn about different types of STEM fields, jobs, and speak to those who are doing this for real! **

EXCITING TIMES ahead on Saturday May 11 :)
See post below for more info about the event!

NASA astronaut Anne McClain and Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques are conducting a spacewalk today outside the International Space Station; the whole process will be webcast live.

Mars just got a little bit more interesting! Scientists announced this week that they have found a LAKE!

But what could this mean for life on Mars? This article caught up with experts from NASA and planetary scientists from a few different universities to see what they thought!

Coles notes?

The lake does seem to contain plenty of water. But for the water to be liquid at such cold temperatures, it must be extremely salty. Even extreme bacteria might not be able to survive.

Even though no Mars spacecraft has landed near the lake, global dust storms, could carry contamination from anywhere on the planet

So how can we see if anything lives there? ...Drill!

Drilling on Mars could face opposition from the scientific community, similar to the subglacial lakes in Antarctica, the Mars lake would be considered an extraordinarily rare and special place!

So where do we go from here? Who knows! But stay tuned as Mars exploration could get a little bit more interesting :)

Here's the full article if you're interested!

A lake spotted hiding under Martian ice could support life, but finding out if anything lives there could be challenging.
