D&D + DBT Skills Therapy Group Facilitated by ICA Counselling

ICA Counselling is now accepting referrals for our upcoming Dungeons & Dragons + Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group — an 8-week, trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming therapy group where participants learn and practice DBT skills inside a collaborative tabletop role-playing adventure.

Each week, participants learn a core DBT skill (mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, or interpersonal effectiveness) and then apply it in real time through guided storytelling led by a Registered Social Worker and a trained Dungeon Master. The playful, experiential format is especially well-suited to clients who find traditional talk-based groups difficult to engage with — including those with ADHD, autism, social anxiety, or emotion-regulation challenges.

Program details:
Separate groups for youth (13–17) and adults (18+)
4–6 participants per closed group, same members for all 8 weeks
In-person groups in Ancaster/Hamilton, ON
Virtual groups available Canada-wide
Facilitated in English
Starting the last week of May 2026

Facilitated by a Registered Social Worker — may be eligible for coverage under extended health benefits
Reduced rate available for complementary 1:1 DBT therapy
No prior D&D experience required

What if therapy happened inside a story?

This June, ICA Counselling & Supervision is launching something new: our Dungeons & Dragons + DBT Skills Therapy Group — a small-group therapy experience where evidence-based DBT skills are learned and practiced live, through collaborative storytelling.
DBT teaches the four skill areas that help us move through big emotions — mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. D&D gives us a low-stakes, creative container to actually try those skills out, not just talk about them. You don't need any D&D experience — our registered clinician and trained Dungeon Master will walk you through everything.

Who it's designed for
— Youth 13–17 and adults 18+ (separate cohorts)
— Neurodivergent folks (ADHD, autism, and more)
— People navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or social stress
— Anyone who learns better by doing than by talking about it

The details
— 8 weekly sessions, 90–120 minutes each
— Small groups of 4–6 participants
— Virtual or in-person
— Insurance receipts provided; sliding scale available
— Starts June 2026

Spaces are limited and fill on a first-come basis.

As healthcare workers, advocates, and neighbours, we have a responsibility to speak up when vulnerable people are put at risk.

Bill C-12 and the proposed cuts to the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) would strip essential health coverage from refugees and asylum seekers in Canada — people who have already survived unimaginable hardship to get here. These aren't abstract policy changes. They mean real people going without primary care, mental health support, and life-saving medication.

The evidence is clear: cutting refugee healthcare doesn't save money — it shifts costs onto emergency departments and communities, while causing immeasurable harm to human lives.

Tomorrow, April 14th, healthcare workers and advocates are rallying in 9 cities across Canada to demand access to free, universal healthcare for ALL, regardless of immigration status. If you can't be there in person, you can still raise your voice:

🌍 We're Hiring!

We are looking for a registered therapist who is passionate about providing culturally responsive, anti-oppressive care to clients from diverse backgrounds.

The ideal candidate brings fluency in Arabic, Spanish, or French, and approaches therapy through a social justice lens — recognizing the systemic barriers that impact mental health and wellbeing.

You are a reflective practitioner who centers the lived experiences of marginalized communities, advocates for equitable access to care, and is committed to ongoing learning around issues of race, identity, power, and privilege.

Whether in the therapy room or beyond, you believe healing is both personal and political. 🤍
