Halloween ready🎃. As you and your little ones get ready for a night of sweet fun, here are some teeth friendly tricks to keep your smiles healthy.

🎃Enjoy the treats, but not all day. It’s how often you eat the chocolates and candies ( and chips too!). Each sugary snacks restarts the acid attack on the enamel. Enjoy the treats, then give your teeth time to recover.

🎃Choose your sweets wisely.
Chocolates vs. Lollipops/candies
Chocolates dissolves quickly and rinses away easily.
Candies/Lollipops/Gummies clings to teeth or stay in the mouth for 10-20 munutes giving more time to do damage.

🎃Sip, Swish and drink. After the sugar rush, swish and drink with water to rinse off the acid that have formed in the teeth. This simple step balances the mouth pH before brushing later.

🎃yes! Wait 30 minutes before brushing to give time for the mouth to lower the pH to protect the enamel.

Candies and chocolates are not the villain. With smart choices and good timing, your family can enjoy the sweetness of Halloween without the cavity scare.

Happy Halloween

Signs your mouth may be affecting your health.
❤️bleeding gums
❤️persistent bad breath
❤️receding gums
❤️loose teeth

Your mouth is the gateway to your body. It is home to billions of bacteria - many are harmless but some are capable of causing disease. When the gums are healthy it act as a barrier protecting your bloodstream from harmful bacteria. But when gum tissue are inflamed due to gingivitis or periodontitis, bacteria and their toxins can enter the bloodstream and spread to other parts of the body including the heart.

Why full disclosure matters.

During your dental hygiene visit, one of the first things we ask is your current medications and supplements. This may seem unrelated to your teeth but it’s a very important part of your oral health care.

🦷Medical Safety - Some medications (blood thinners) and certain herbal supplements (like garlic, ginkgo) can increase bleeding, or delayed healing during dental procedure.

🦷Dry mouth effect - Many prescriptions and supplements (antidepressants, blood pressure, antihistamines) can reduce saliva flow, which can lead to cavities, bad breath and gum problems.

🦷Drug Interactions - Even natural supplements can affect how your body responds to treatments, anesthesia, or prescribed antibiotics.

🦷Whole-body Connection - Your oral health is directly linked to your overall health. Knowing your full health history helps us provide the safest care.

The more we know, the better we can protect your smile.

When we talk about menopause, most women think of hot flashes and mood swings or sleep troubles. But here’s something many don’t realize - those hormonal changes can affect your oral health.
Headaches and migraines during menopause aren’t just in your head. They can be a stress response to hormonal fluctuations triggering grinding and clenching during nighttime and daytime. Over time, this constant pressure and tension can lead to worn out teeth, teeth pain/sensitivity, jaw pain, and even lead to cracked teeth/fillings, root canal due to nerve trauma.
Your mouth can tell your pre-menopause and menopause story - sometimes even before you realize it.
By understanding this connection you can take steps to protect your oral health. With the right care, you can keep both your smile and overall wellness thriving. Let’s talk. A proactive approach today can prevent bigger issues tomorrow.

What an incredible day at the Association of Orofacial Myology of Canada symposium. The day was filled with learning, collaboration and inspiration. I’m especially inspired as we continue to grow and bring awareness about orofacial myology.

Dry mouth, also called xerostomia, results from reduced or no saliva and can affect the health of teeth and gums as well as the enjoyment and digestion of food. Left untreated, dry mouth increases the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
