This week, our community will see the start of a new specialty clinic in Kenora, delivered by Thunder Bay Orthopaedic. Certified Orthotist Alex Tempelman has plans to visit Kenora regularly to run the clinic, meeting adult and paediatric needs not previously available in Kenora such as spinal, upper and complex lower extremity bracing.

Thunder Bay Orthopaedic has, for some time, offered clinics in Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout and Dryden, and now – Kenora is added to the list of communities offering this specialty service, bringing care closer to home for many individuals. Patients can access the Kenora clinics by self-referral online (https://www.tbortho.com/) or get a referral through their primary care provider.

The clinic in Kenora will run approximately every three months, for two back-to-back days at FIREFLY and at . Tomorrow, Thursday, October 30th will see day one of the clinic in the hospital. Any patients who have an appointment with Alex should enter through the main lobby and register in the Rehabilitation Department (ask our friendly team for help finding your way if needed).

LWDH Trailblazers: Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. William (Bill) Kyle

This summer, a plaque commemorating Dr. William Kyle’s three-decade long career at was quietly installed and unveiled (as per his family’s wishes) in our Diagnostic Imaging department.

Dr. Kyle served as Chief of the Radiology Department, Chief of Staff and played pivotal roles in bringing new imaging technologies to the hospital — he was instrumental in campaigning for a CT Scanner and helped bring Ultrasound, Mammography and Bone Mineral Density scanning to our hospital.

His impact reached far beyond medicine, contributing to the community in so many ways. Dr. Kyle was known for his adventurous spirit — a pilot, builder, skier, Rotarian, and lifelong learner.

Dr. Kyle’s impressive story (as shared by his family) is our latest LWDH Trailblazer article celebrating our history and the many whose vision, compassion and dedication have helped shaped healthcare in our region.

We invite you to read the full story and join us in honouring Dr. Kyle: https://ow.ly/wta950XjLjH
