Nada Brahma. The World Is Sound.
Come on out to breathe, dance, and bathe in sound with three local energy healing practitioners.
Join with us
Friday, August 23, at the lovely Cedarvale Wellness in Port Elgin, from 6:30 to 8:30.
So, how would I describe what we three healing practitioners are about to do with breathwork, soundbath, and dance? Well, firstly, with great enthusiasm!
These three healing modalities are intimately linked. Let me try to explain this.
I’m currently reading a book called Nada Brahma: The World Is Sound. By Berendt. It’s blowing my mind. This exhaustive book is recommended in the one-year Sacred Sound Healer Certification Programme I’m currently in with The Shift Network. Nada Brahma (the book) gives the cosmology/mythology of sound, among other themes like philosophy and etymology; and on to the heavy (mindblowing!) science piece.
So, with Nada Brahma as a guiding metaphor, I would describe our upcoming offering something like this.
Nada, the Sanskrit word for sound, is the originating vibration out of which all creation comes. All vibrations partake of the original Nada. Brahma means world or originating creative source or the divine element. Nada Brahma: The World is sound, the cosmos is created through sound, the world is sustained by sound. And we are the world.
Given that everything in the universe is a vibrational echo or scion of the originating Nada, of the primal vibratory creative force, we, too, are not simply vibration, but vibrational co-creators with the sound current.
The sound current has many names throughout cultures. Modern science calls it cosmic background radiation, a very low frequency hum that reportedly emanated from The Big Bang. Other words are: the Shabda, the Word, the Tao, The Dragon Current, NAM, OM, The Holy Spirit, God.
And how does sound happen, from inaudible sound we call vibration to audible sound we call sound?
We are vibrational, humming, thrumming, energetic beings. We’re vibrating in our atoms, in our cells, in our breathing, and in our heart’s pulsing rhythms; in our grosser musculature and in the subtle micro-pulsings of neurons and synapses. Our emotions and feelings and thoughts are vibrations. Our speech. Our walk. Our resting moments of ease. All teeming with vibrational frequencies. Our breath.
And all these vibrations have sound, audible or inaudible. All these vibrations have rhythm. All these vibrations are a dance.
Rhythm is the underpinning, the driver, of song and dance. Rhythm has been described as the forward motion of sound, the moving agent of vibration and harmony — or of cacophony. Rhythm is a mover. Rhythm is a groover. Groove is recognized as an aspect of music. And groove is oh so often expressed as dance.
We don’t often think of breath as a sound healing instrument. But breath is essential to our vocal communication with one another and to our vocal communion with our world—and to our felt sense of connecting with Spirit. Breath is essential to making song and helping our world to sing. And making vocal sound can both heal – and destroy. Intention is all.
Breath is also a rhythm instrument. Breath is rhythmic. Breath is a foundational rhythm of life as well as the essential tool of our voices.
My own favoured sonic healing tool is a breath instrument, a wind instrument. Among the other instruments I use in sound healings, I use the North American Native or Native Style Wooden Flute. It is powered, physically, by breath. Breath itself is sound, is song. And each of us, ourselves, is, actually, a wind instrument. We have — we are! — a natural flute: we push our breath through our vocal chords and make sound, song, music.
And spiritually, the flute is filled with its beauteous healing potential by intention.
Movement, dance, rhythm, song, music, sonic healing soundscapes, breath, groove, intention … we’ve got you covered in this ecstatic dance, breathwork, and sound healing collaboration with three local vibrational healer folk, Sue, Wes, and Kim.
Come join us! Let’s carry our healing intentions into our bodies, our breaths, our inner music of vibrational coherence. Let’s send that out to the world in need.
Nada Brahma: the cosmos is sound, the cosmos is rhythm, the cosmos is a breathing vibrational dance of creative potential.
Let’s dance the lovelier world into being — together!
