Thank you all who attended Oasis Night at the Domino Theatre last Wednesday evening!

Though the weather was snowy, many of you came out and enjoyed an incredible night of drama and humour. Funds raised from ticket sales came to $963—that’s almost $1k that will go to supporting our Oasis sites, communities, and members in the Kingston area. Thank you all!

The play, “W;t” by Margaret Edson, was a moving, genuine, and honest examination of one character’s journey as she undergoes treatment for ovarian cancer. Over the course of the play, the protagonist reflects on past relationships and makes new ones—a theme that resonates with what we see and experience here at Oasis, where social connection is a vital component of the human spirit.

On behalf of everyone in the Oasis team, we recognize and appreciate the incredible staff at Domino Theatre, Kingston Ontario and the amazing actors and production team that put on such a memorable performance! We look forward to the next Oasis Night.

Many of us will gather with treasured family and friends during this holiday season. It’s a time of connection and appreciation – but unfortunately, not everyone will be able to experience this.

A poll conducted only 2 years ago found that 34 percent of Canadians feel lonely during the holiday season, with some wishing that someone could reach out for comfort.

You could be that someone. Social engagement, not isolation, is key to healthy, meaningful aging, after all. We'll do our part this holiday season to reach out to the connections in our network who may be feeling more isolated. In the spirit of the season, let’s spread some good cheer! ❤️💙

This week has been “Talk to a Stranger Week”. Have you talked to a new face today?

We might think of community as the network we have with our friends and acquaintances, but the connections we make with people, as we go out and about, can count too!
