Retirement is supposed to be the time where you finally get to enjoy things a little more.

Slow mornings, walks, hobbies, time with grandkids, maybe trying things like pickleball or tai chi... TRAVELLING!

But what I hear from a lot of people is
“I finally have the time, but I feel like I'm falling apart.”😩

Things that used to feel easy now leave you sore...

Hips feel stiff getting up...

Back takes longer to loosen...

You do something you enjoy and feel it for days after...

And it can start to feel like your body is just not keeping up, even when you’re trying to take care of yourself.

Most of the time, it’s not that your body is breaking down.
It’s asking for a different kind of support than it used to need.

Years of movement, habits, old injuries, and patterns build up
And now they show up as stiffness, soreness, or things not moving the way they used to.

This is something I work with every day...
Helping people move a little easier, recover better, and get back to doing the things they actually enjoy!

Because this stage of life shouldn’t be about holding back or missing out. It should feel good to live in your body.

If you haven't been getting the self-care you need and need relief, reach out to me and let's get you moving.

A Few Things to Know Before Your Appointment

I want every session with me to feel safe, relaxing, and seamless. Here is a quick rundown of my policies so your visit is smooth:

Cancellation Policy➺ Please give at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. If you need to cancel with less than 48 hours notice, you must reach out to me directly via text at 226-936-1452. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will incur a 50% cancellation fee.

Late Arrival Policy➺ Please arrive on time so you can enjoy your full session. If you arrive late, your session will still end at the scheduled time to respect other clients. Full payment is required even if the session is shortened due to late arrival.

Scent-Free Studio➺ To keep the space comfortable for everyone, please avoid wearing perfumes, scented lotions, or strongly scented personal care products. I have severe sensitivities and this helps me focus on giving you the best care.

Draping Policy➺ Appropriate draping will always be used during your session to ensure your privacy and comfort. You will only be undraped as necessary for the area being worked on, and your body will always be respected.

Home Studio Details➺ My studio is in my home. Please use the front door for your appointment. There is a front porch with stairs, so plan accordingly. You may also see my two friendly dogs around. They are part of the calm and welcoming environment.

These policies help me give you the best care possible while keeping the studio safe, relaxing, and comfortable for all clients. Thank you for helping me create a space that works for everyone.

Hey there! I’m Kim McDowell, RMT, the hands (and heart) behind your next moment of calm.

I’m a Registered Massage Therapist who genuinely loves helping people feel amazing in their bodies. Whether it’s melting away tension, tackling chronic aches, or just giving you a much-needed reset, my sessions are all about YOU! Customized, therapeutic, and designed to help you move, breathe, and feel better.

A little about me outside the massage table: I’m a mom to two energetic boys (my house is definitely full-on boy mode!), a dog mom to a German Shepherd and a lovable Lab mix, a coffee enthusiast, and a little bit feisty ☕

I’m passionate about yoga 🧘‍♀️, mindfulness, and bringing warmth, personality, and authenticity into everything I do.

I started down this path because I wanted to create a space where wellness feels approachable, personal, and totally you. Here, it’s about more than just massage.... It’s about connecting with your body, your energy, and your self-care.

Check out my services to see how I can help you feel your best and find more balance in your life. 💛

I’m so excited to continue offering massage therapy to the Cottam and Essex communities! The opening of my business has been overwhelmingly positive and I can’t wait to keep serving you.

Here’s how to book with me: I’m at The Broeckel Clinic in Essex on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and at my home studio in Cottam on Wednesdays and Fridays, with occasional Saturdays at both locations.

Both locations offer Massage Therapy, but Indie Head Massage and Warm Thai Stem Facials are only available at my home studio in Cottam.

A little about the spaces: My home studio in Cottam is a quiet, serene space where you can truly unwind, and I have two friendly dogs on site. At the Broeckel Clinic in Essex, I’m happy to work alongside Osteopathic Manual Practitioners in a professional clinical environment in the heart of Essex.

Booking online is the easiest way to see my schedule and secure your spot. If a time isn’t listed, it means I’m not available then. These are my working hours and they allow me to show up fully for you.

You can book through the links in my profile or directly at kimberlymcdowellrmt.janeapp.com and thebroeckelclinic.janeapp.com

February is doing that late-winter thing where everything feels a little heavier.

If your shoulders are creeping toward your ears...

If your hips are talking back...

If you’re tired in a way sleep isn’t fixing...

I’ve got a few quiet openings left this month:

• Wed, Feb 18th – 9:00am, 10:20am, 3:30pm
• Fri, Feb 20th – 10:20am
• Wed, Feb 25th – 1:00pm
• Fri, Feb 27th – 9:00am

Massage is not a luxury this time of year. It’s maintenance. It’s nervous system support. It’s staying ahead of the flare instead of chasing it.

Direct billing available.

It's not self care. It's crisis management.

Your body does not suddenly fall apart overnight.

It whispers first. Tightness. Fatigue. That constant off feeling you keep pushing through.

Then you wait until you are in pain, burned out, exhausted, snappy, or sick and only then do you reach out.

Maintenance matters.

Movement matters.

Hydration matters. Your fascia needs water to stay healthy and functional.

Rest matters.

Regular bodywork matters.

You would not skip brushing your teeth for 11 months and expect one cleaning to save them. Your body works the same way.

Waiting until you are desperate does not make it easier to get in either.

Take the day off before you are sick.

Book the massage before you are in agony.

Care for your body like you actually plan on living in it for a while.

Feeling like garbage is not a personality trait. It is a sign you need to start showing up for yourself.

Pain is rarely just about the spot that’s screaming for attention...It’s the body sending you a message. Tight shoulders...

Pain is rarely just about the spot that’s screaming for attention...

It’s the body sending you a message. Tight shoulders, an achy lower back, or a stubborn "knot" in your neck are all clues pointing to what’s really going on beneath the surface.

That’s why I don’t just treat symptoms. I look at patterns, movement, posture, and tension to understand the root cause. The goal isn’t a quick fix that fades by tomorrow. The goal is to help your body release, reset, and function better so it doesn’t keep calling for help in the same spot.

When you start addressing the why instead of just the where, massage stops being a temporary escape and becomes a tool for real, lasting change.

☽⋆What I’m doing a few minutes before you walk in for your massage…

✦Cleaning and disinfecting the room. Table, headrest, chair, door handle, lotion bottles, and tools. Basically anything either of us touches gets wiped down.

✦Hitting the bathroom. Nothing could be worse than having to hold it halfway through a treatment.

✦Sneaking a snack because someone has to fuel all this magic.

✦Loading used sheets into the washer so everything will be fresh and clean for upcoming sessions.

✦Making your table cozy with fresh sheets, blankets, pillows, and sometimes a little heat because comfort matters.

✦Checking that the hot towels are fully loaded into the warmer. Warm towels make everything feel like a hug!

✦Spraying some essential oils to help calm the space and get the energy right . (Nothing too strong, I’m most of the time scent-free)

✦Letting the doggos out for a quick p*e break because even they have a schedule to keep.

✦Finishing up notes from my last client and catching up on your last treatment so I know exactly where your body is today.

✦Mentally preparing to help your muscles unwind, your nervous system relax, and your body feel like it belongs in its own skin again.

Massage is more than just the time on the table. It starts with every detail I set up before you walk in, from clean sheets to hot towels, a calm space, and knowing exactly what your body needs today.
