We are in the time of what Tollkien coined a "eucastrophe"- so close to a new dawn, being snatched from the doom of catastrophe. Let's not lose hope and more importantly not leave others behind.

I post this image tongue in cheek but I know many of us (including me) have used this technique for better or for worse. Some procrastinators are hypervigilant for signs that their performance is not up to scratch. They may be sensitive to signs of negative feedback, or even tune in to their own stress and discomfort when attempting to start a task (and rationalising that this discomfort reflects a lack of ability).

"Maintaining our sense of competence plays an essential role in our ability to pursue our goals effectively. In fact, to the extent that we feel competent, our fears of the potential for failure are not related to our procrastination. The question now is how do we foster that sense of competence in our lives that is so essential to our well-being? Competence, sometimes known as self-efficacy or our confidence in our ability, is built on earlier success. It is an upward spiral of confidence in our ability based on previous experience. It's also partly perception. When we recall the past, what do we recall? Where do we put our focus? Are we feeding our fears by remembering times when we did fail (because we all do at times), or are we optimistically and strategically focusing on our many successes to bolster our sense of competence?" -Timothy Pychyl

Fear of Failure - "Own the fear. It is important to accept that failure makes you feel both fear and shame, and to find trusted others with whom you can discuss these feelings. Bringing these feelings to the surface can help prevent you from expressing them through unconscious efforts to sabotage yourself, and getting reassurance and empathy from trusted others can bolster your feelings of self-worth while minimizing the threat of disappointing them....Focus on aspects in your control. Identify aspects of the task or preparation that are in your control and focus on those. Brainstorm ways to reframe aspects of the task that seem out of your control such that you regain control of them. For example, If you’ve failed to find work because you just don’t know "the right people," set the goal of expanding your network by going through your address book and Facebook and social media contacts, and reaching out to everyone you know who might help: Even if they are not in your field, they might know someone who is." -Guy Winch

Stacy Sauve, a former fellow student of Spanish Public School (Spanish, Ontario) had a re-occuring dream of the two residential schools in our village. Growing up she always played on the grounds of the former residential schools (largest in Ontario). Check out what she is doing as a volunteer artist to promote truth and reconciliation right on the site (with the blessing of the elders): https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/spanish-tree-carving-residential-school-survivors-1.4168965 I'm definitely going to stop in and pay my respects when I visit my family this summer.
