❄️ Winter Storm Warning: Let’s Stay Safe & Steady ❄️

When the snow starts flying and the wind picks up, safety comes first. A winter storm isn’t just inconvenient — it can be dangerous. Here are a few simple reminders:

✔️ Stay home if you can — avoid unnecessary travel
✔️ Keep emergency supplies handy just in case you lose power (flashlights, batteries, water, non-perishables)
✔️ Charge devices ahead of time
✔️ Check in on neighbours, especially seniors
✔️ Dress in layers if heading outside — frostbite can happen quickly

And just as important… protect your mental well-being. Being “snowed in” can feel cozy — or isolating — depending on the day.

So here’s a little question for you:

👉 What’s your number one go-to activity to pass the time during a winter storm?

Is it:
📚 Reading a good book?
🎬 Movie marathon?
☕ Baking or cooking comfort food?
🧩 Puzzles or board games?
📞 Catching up with a friend?

Sometimes these forced slow-downs are an opportunity to rest, reset, and reconnect.

Drop your favourite winter storm activity below — you might inspire someone else to try something new while the snow falls.

Stay safe and stay warm. ❄️

Pink Shirt. An important reminder to stand up for one another 💗

Pink Shirt. An important reminder to stand up for one another 💗

Today we observe Pink Shirt Day here in Canada (in Aotearoa New Zealand, it’s recognized on the third Friday of May).

Wearing pink is a visible stand against bullying — especially in schools — and a reminder that bullying causes real harm. It impacts mental health, undermines safety, and makes the world a harder place to live for those on the receiving end.

Creating a kinder, more compassionate world is a shared responsibility. It means speaking up when we see bullying, choosing not to engage in harm ourselves, and actively protecting those who are most vulnerable, including people from marginalized communities.

Kindness isn’t passive — it’s something we practice, every day.

💗 Be kind. Stand up. Look out for one another.

Wellness Wednesday 💚
Ever notice how some tasks light you up… and others completely drain you?
Not all work demands the same kind of energy. A client session requires emotional presence. Strategic planning demands deep cognitive focus. Emails? They nibble away at attention in small but steady bites.
When we treat every task as equal, we risk overloading the same mental “muscle” all day long.
One simple tool we recently learned of to help protect your energy: colour-code your calendar. Brilliant!

🟢 Green – High-focus / deep thinking
🔵 Blue – Meetings / collaboration
🟣 Purple – Creative work
🟡 Yellow – Admin / light tasks
🔴 Red – Personal time / Recovery

Within a week, patterns become obvious. Are you stacking five high-focus tasks back-to-back? Are you leaving no buffer between emotionally demanding conversations? Is this strategy draining you?
Awareness creates choice.
When you understand the true demand of a task, you can plan recovery just as intentionally as productivity.
For coming weeks, don’t just manage your time. Manage your energy. 💛

Mental Health Monday (Reality Edition)

Phew. Life has been running at full speed lately.

Today’s plan?
Pause. Slow down. Model the calm, regulated behaviour we encourage everyone else to practice.

Actual outcome?
Life laughed gently and said, “That’s adorable.”

So instead of a perfectly structured reset, we made a micro-adjustment. We paused between the chaos, brewed a deliciously steamy chai latte, and took a short, intentional “welcome back to sanity” break.

Was it a full afternoon of mindfulness? No.
Was it perfect? Also no.
Was it enough to reset the nervous system a notch? Absolutely.

Mental Health Monday reminder: self-care does not have to be aesthetic, elaborate, or Instagram-worthy. Sometimes it’s five quiet minutes, a warm mug, and choosing not to feel defeated.

Progress, not perfection.

How are you adjusting your plans today?

Valentine’s Day can be tender.

While the world leans into flowers, dinners, and grand gestures, many are quietly carrying the weight of someone who is no longer here. If you are grieving today — a partner, a parent, a child, a friend — please know this:

Love doesn’t end when a life does.
Grief is simply love with nowhere obvious to go.

At Prairie Willow Wellness, we want to gently remind you that it’s okay if today feels heavy. It’s okay if you opt out. It’s okay if you light a candle instead of making plans. It’s okay if you smile at a memory and cry in the same breath.

There is no timeline for grief and no “right” way to move through a day like this.

What is one gentle way you might care for yourself today?
