🧘‍♂️ Planning for Retirement? Don’t Forget Your Physical Health! 🏋️‍♀️

As you plan for retirement, don’t just focus on financial stability – your physical health is just as important! Did you know that VO2 Max (your body’s ability to use oxygen during exercise) declines predictably with age? This means that without regular activity, your endurance may decrease, making it harder to stay active in your golden years. But the good news is you can slow this decline with the right physical health plan!

Here’s how maintaining a higher VO2 Max and METs (Metabolic Equivalents) can help you thrive in retirement:
* Traveling the world 🌍 – Maintain stamina to explore new places (5-6 METs).
* Hiking and nature walks 🌲 – Conquer more challenging trails with energy to spare (7-9 METs).
* Golfing, swimming, or cycling 🚴‍♀️ – Enjoy low-impact activities that keep you moving (4-8 METs).
* Dancing 💃 – Keep your feet moving and your heart healthy (5-7 METs).
* Playing with grandkids 👨‍👩‍👦 – Stay energetic and active for all those memorable moments (3-5 METs).

As VO2 Max naturally declines with age, you can slow this process by starting as high as you can now and staying active through aerobic exercises like jogging, brisk walking, and swimming. Start working on your physical health today so your retirement is full of vitality and adventure!

💪 Did you know that physical fitness plays a huge role in cancer survivorship? 💪
Staying active not only helps cancer survivors regain strength and boost energy, but it also improves VO2 max—your body’s ability to use oxygen efficiently. A higher VO2 max means better heart health, more stamina, and even a reduced risk of cancer recurrence.
Whether you’re a survivor or know someone who is, incorporating regular exercise into daily life can make a world of difference for long-term health and well-being.

If you or a loved one is navigating life before, during, or after cancer, we’re here to support you with VO2max testing and personalized fitness advice designed to improve your VO2 max and overall health.

What’s the difference between an HbA1c of 5.6% vs 5.7%, or 6.4% vs 6.5%?

Whats the difference between a BMI of 24.9 and 25?

Likely not a huge difference in terms of health and health outcomes, but a big difference in diagnosis.

The point is that your health is much more complicated than one marker, one risk factor, or one diagnosis.

Work with a skilled practitioner who can help you navigate all of these numbers and biomarkers.

For the majority of people most of the time eating during workouts or training is unnecessary.

But for those who it is necessary I.e. >60mins, harder endurance days, phase of training, etc use the following as a guide:

- Carbs only - avoid fat and usually protein
- Trial different sources to see which is best for your digestion (you don’t want bubble guts and hot snakes - Andy Dwyer shout out)
- Anywhere from 30-60g per hour is typically enough

Of course your nutrition in the days and hours leading into your training or an event are just as or more important.

Basic strength training. Some cardio. Protein and veggies. Limit ultra processed foods.

You don’t need to do a quarterly “cleanse” or “detox”. You don’t need to drink lemon water in the morning. You don’t have to spend lots of money on supplements.

Unless you want to.

That is the beauty of finding your optimal health habits. They don’t need to match someone else’s.

Do your thing. Don’t judge. Don’t worry about being judged.

If you have been told the root of all of your symptoms is hormonal imbalance, it might be the complete wrong thing to treat.

Fatigue, brain fog, mood changes - they are very broad symptoms that can be caused by a tonne of other things.

Sure, hormones play a role in our health, but they are part of a much, much larger picture and should never be thought of in isolation from the system.
