SAFFRON FOR ANXIETY 💬
Being in the natural health world even before it was popular, I've accumulated a lot of knowledge and understanding on different supplements and what they can help and why.
But I'm always so intrigued by new recommendations I hear about. The more you know the more you realize you don't know.
Earlier in my postpartum journey I was dealing with nighttime panic attacks. So much change. So much hard. So little happy hormones. So much stress. It all made sense, but I knew I needed some support.
I tried medication, and wasn't a fan.
Then a (wonderful) doctor recommended SAFFRON.
I decided to give it a shot.
Weeks went by and life got a little bit lighter. Of course it wasn't ONLY saffron that I was doing to support my mental health, but in hindsight I can see that it was one of the tools that made a marked difference for me.
Here's the "probably" why:
It has the same (but gentler) mechanism of SSRIs, without the unpleasant side effect risks. Saffron nudges the system rather than forcing it.
It can help modulate the HPA axis (hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis) which can reduce exaggerated cortisol responses to stress.... Something many of us know well....
It has been shown to improve heart rate variability as well which is truthfully one symptom I noticed reduce with my daily saffron. A more stable HR is marker of nervous system flexibility. Something I'm working on in all fronts 😉
I didn't dig deep into too many studies because there are a lot. But I did see that there was a large review of 21 clinical trials, and it started that people who took saffron consistently reported lower anxiety levels on standardized anxiety scales compared to those who didn’t.
So I know it's not just in my head.
And now I'm happy to point others in the direction of Saffron too! Never hurts to give it a shot.
DM me SAFFRON and I'll personally answer any Q's and share my Fullscript anxiety collection. No bots here so be patient with my reply time.
