As mentioned in our previous post, Autism Level Up developed an amazing resource that explains what and why we are changing the body body listening idea to a whole body learner.

They created Bumper who is a whole body learner 🤩. In our post you can see our version of what bumper looks like but what is important is the features Bumper has which represents a whole body learning approach.

▶️Tactile Manipulators: exploring, building, operating tools, communicating
▶️ Mobility Units: moving, dancing, fidgeting, bouncing etc.
▶️ Inner Mechanics: charging, fuelling, feeling, reacting etc.
▶️ Mission Control: Sensing, analyzing, processing, communicating

For more information check out Autism Level Up!

We are saying NO to whole body listening and instead saying YES to being a whole body learner!

The term ‘whole body listener’ is used to describe how someone should listen. You know the classic eyes looking at the person talking to you, ears ready to hear what is being said, mouth being quite (no sounds), hands and feet quiet, etc.

A ‘whole body learner’ uses ALL of their tools and processing mechanisms to take in and analyze information.

Shoutout to for creating BUMPER who we will introduce next

We often get a lot of parents asking questions about their child having trouble with their sounds and for good reason.

We work with a lot of clients who are working on articulation. Sometimes these errors can be simple to remediate and other times more complex.

The next slides are a great summary of when children should acquire specific sounds.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s sounds, don’t hesitate to reach out!

At Kawartha Children’s Therapies, we believe that early literacy matters. It matters because we can work on a variety of skills like developing rich vocabulary, self-expression, and reading comprehension at an early age.

Tips for early literacy:
📕 allow you child to choose a book
📕 read the story to your child & make it fun!
📕 point to the pictures and talk about what you see
📕 have your child flip the pages
