Acne Tips from an Acne Specialist 👇🏼
🍒Focus on diet
Your skin reflects inflammation. If blood sugar is constantly spiking or your diet is heavy in sugar and dairy, breakouts can be harder to calm. Think balanced meals, protein, fibre and an overall anti inflammatory approach. Consistency matters more than being perfect for a week.
🧁Limit sugar + dairy
These are two of the most common triggers I see with acne prone clients. You do not have to eliminate them forever, but if you are struggling, a solid 8 to 12 week break can tell you a lot about how your skin responds.
💄Check your makeup
Not all makeup is acne safe. Some foundations, concealers, blush and bronzers are packed with ingredients that quietly clog pores and worsen comedones and inflammation. This is exactly why I created the Acne Guide, so you know what to look for and what to avoid when choosing products. But I will always do a deep dive on products you’re using to make sure they’re safe after your initial consult.
🩹Use sulfur to spot treat
Sulfur is one of the most underrated ingredients for inflamed acne. It helps reduce oil, calm redness, and dry out active breakouts without completely stripping your barrier.
The GlyMed sulfur mask is one of my favorites for red, angry breakouts, excessively oily skin or fungal acne. It draws out congestion while calming inflammation at the same time, which is key for healing inflamed acne properly.
🧊Ice your skin
Simple but effective. Icing helps reduce swelling and redness and constricts the blood vessels to reduce the appearance and helps to prevent post inflammatory erythema.
Acne is complex. It is not one size fits all. Hormones, gut health, stress, products, and lifestyle all play a role. Education is just as important as what you are putting on your skin.
