Session sneak-peak:

All parts of our bodies are amazingly designed - including our pelvic floors. The pelvic floor is a small but mighty set of muscles at the bottom of your pelvis. And those muscles play many roles: they keep you dry, they support your pelvic organs, they have a role in s*xual function, they play a part in childbirth, they are part of a strong core, they support your overall health and vitality, and more.
Even though the pelvic floor is such a key part of women's health and wellness, many women are not familiar with that part of their bodies. They do not know how to connect, and they live with leaking, pain, weakness, and other pelvic health problems. They may have even been told these symptoms are normal.
During this session, you will learn what the pelvic floor is and how it works. You will understand signs and symptoms that indicate that your pelvic floor may need to be checked. You will learn simple tips and tricks to keep your pelvic floor happy and healthy from youth to postmenopause. And most importantly, you will begin to reconnect to your body through a few simple exercises.
We will have some time for Q&A at the end - no question is off the table.

Posted • Pain Neuroscience Education APPLIED to Childbirth‼️⁣

There are many pelvic health physiotherapists who now identify as "experts" in the prenatal and postnatal space.⁣

We educate our patients on pelvic health issues, prep for childbirth as well as recovery in the 4th trimester. 🤰⁣

But how many of us actually do pain neuroscience education in the Childbirth space❓⁣

Ibbie Alofabi, a VERY biopsychosocial pelvic health physio, a certified doula and and a certified birth educator does just that!⁣

Curious❓⁣

👉🏻 If you ask any woman who is about to give birth what their biggest fear is, they will tell you it is the PAIN of childbirth. How will they manage it?⁣

Understanding pain and how to approach pain in childbirth is one of the best tools that we can use to empower women in this space.⁣

✨Ready to challenge your understanding of pain during childbirth?⁣

✅ Join Ibbie () on November 30th for a VERY special 3 hour class you will not want to miss!

Posted • Evaluating Confirmation Bias': Pain in Childbirth 🤰⁣

Does what you believe influence your patient's outcomes❓⁣

I didn't ask you whether what your patient believes influences their outcomes..... I asked you whether or not what YOU believe influences your patient's outcomes.⁣

The simple answer is YES!🤯⁣

There is a lot of research that substantiates that in persistent pain as well as acute pain. ⁣

A very interesting study was done with dentists. When dentist's know that they are giving a powerful pain killer but patients don't know whether it is a placebo or the "real deal" patients do better when the dentist knows which treatment group the patient has been randomized to participate in. That is why we need to do double blind studies.⁣

Let that sink in for a moment!⁣

What you believe influences your PATIENT'S outcomes!⁣

👉🏻 Don't you owe it to your patients to examine your confirmation bias' and align them with CURRENT pain science?⁣

How does this apply to childbirth❓Do we believe that childbirth pain is inevitable❓Can we change our own/our patient's experience of pain during childbirth❓⁣

✅ Join Ibbie Alofabi () on November 30th for a mind-blowing look at pain neuroscience education aimed at childbirth. Limited spaces available!

✨SO excited for this!!!!✨

On Oct 28th Ibukun Afolabi () will be joining us and Carolyn Vandyken () for the FINAL session titled 'Addressing (Back) Pain in Labour and Delivery' of the webinar series.

Physiotherapists play a key role in helping women understand how to manage their pain during labour and delivery, especially when they have concurrent lumbopelvic pain.

Pregnant people are worried about the pain that they will experience during labour and delivery.

Women with PGP and LBP have a heightened sense of worry and fear of fragility.

You will learn how to apply pain neuroscience education to this special patient population in order to empower the next generation of mothers.

🔔 The webinar is now full and a waitlist has been started.

📢 We will also be streaming the webinars to our YouTube channel and will leave them streaming for 48 hours.

Birth is a physical event - but it's also deeply emotional and very much about mindset. It's spiritual, whether we acknowledge it or not. Plus there are so many psycho-social factors that influence it.

In my work as a pelvic health and perinatal physio, I used to focus primarily on the physical aspects of birth (obviously). But the longer I worked with my clients, the more I realized that focusing on the physical is just not enough.

The mind, heart, spirit all impact the birthing body. Someone's social realities, or the politics and policies of institutions, or access, or widely held cultural beliefs all impact a family's experience of birth.

How pregnancy and birth happens can influence generations to come - through trauma, epigenetics, physical and mental health states, and spiritual states as well. How birth happens literally impacts the future of our world.

There's quite a bit that is out of our control when it comes to birth. We cultivate adaptability, mental resilience, fortitude, and acceptance in those cases.

But there's a lot that we CAN do, much that is within our control when it comes to birth.

Two questions for you:
1) What area of preparation do you wish to focus your attention on? What made you choose that?
2) What is one simple thing can you begin to do today to prepare your body, heart, mind, or spirit for your upcoming birth?
