Hi everyone! My name is Nina and I’m in my third year on the field hockey team!
Growing up playing competitive sports, I’ve found that the mental aspect of sport can be something extremely difficult to cope with. It’s easy to get in your own head and let your doubts and fears get in the way of your performance. To help me stay focused in competition, I started reading books and articles that discuss different strategies such as developing mental toughness. I like to read an article or small section of a book the night before practices and games to give me something to focus on the next day when I’m on the field. I’ve found that by doing this, my performance has improved, and I’ve gotten better at shaking off my mistakes and focusing on the next task at hand. Your mind influences your performance just as much as your physical abilities, so it’s important that you find strategies that work for you to strengthen and take care of it!
