Some of my answers to some big questions about being a yoga teacher...
How do I want my students to feel in class with me?
I want my students to feel safe, seen, open, free, and curious. I want students to be able to come in and know that there bodies hold wisdom. I want them to feel that it's safe to listen to the wisdom of the body. I want students to feel like they can be in the dance of pushing and releasing. I want them to feel safe to explore "who am I right now"
What do I want them to take away from my classes?
I want students to take away empowerment, contentment, and authenticity. I want them to feel that they know their bodies, they know how to be with themselves, and they feel at home in themselves on "good" and "bad" days.
What are my core values as a yoga teacher? What is important to me in sharing the practice of yoga?
My core values as a yoga teacher are understanding, freedom, expression, and acceptance. I want people to know that yoga is more than asana and that the asanas are more than body positions. In sharing the practice of yoga it is important to me to communicate to my students that yoga is practicing how to show up for yourself. It's practicing how to accept yourself and your present. It's practicing how to enjoy the ebb and flow of your being, your breath, and your existence instead of leading with the fluctuations of the mind. Yoga is about how we show up as ourselves on the mat, in our minds, and in the world.
