Ever feel like you can’t get your point across no matter how hard you try? 💬

Every point you’re trying to make needs 5 supporting points, and you still feel like you haven’t fully justified yourself… it’s exhausting!

And even if you logically get that overexplaining isn’t helping… you can’t help it! 😬❤️‍🩹

Therapy can target the underlying anxiety that keeps you stuck in overexplaining mode. A sense of security and nervous system regulation are 🔑

Hey, I’m Kirsten 👋🏼

I’m a trauma therapist and I run a private practice in Maple Ridge, BC.

Most of the people I work with learned early that the best way to show up in relationships is to put everyone else first.

My work is shaped by both clinical training in complex trauma, and lived experience.

I practice attachment-focused EMDR, infused with a ton of somatic work and a massive emphasis on self-compassion and understanding internal dynamics. I am a relational therapist, meaning our dynamic is an important element of the healing process, and I take that seriously.

My clients understand that sustainable change is a slow, layered process (and that being frustrated with the process is ok).

I am beyond grateful to support people while they learn to relate to themselves with more harmony, create more resiliency, and process trauma. It is truly a privilege to walk beside people in their depths 🧜🏼‍♀️

As a trauma-informed therapist, I care a lot about fit 👯

Therapy works best when it feels right…

If you’re looking for a counsellor, I hope you give yourself permission to notice:
✨Do I feel more like myself here… or more guarded?
✨Am I being met… or managed?

Because the relationship matters more than any specific approach (seriously!).

And just as important…

If your patterns, needs, or goals don’t line up with the kind of work I tend to do.. that just means there’s someone else who will be a better fit for you 💗

I put a lot of care into this cozy and grounded therapy space 💗 client comfort, texture and layers, freedom to move around, and space for expressive arts… it all came together!

For a lot of people, self-criticism developed as a way to stay acceptable, stay connected, or prevent mistakes. It had a job.

When compassion wasn’t modelled, or didn’t feel safe, gentleness can register as unfamiliar rather than soothing.

Unfamiliar might be uncomfortable, but it doesn’t mean danger.

Save this for the moments when your inner voice gets loud.

To be fair, you don’t have to spend your morning in torrential downpour to reap the benefits of nature. Even a stroll around the block to get some daylight in your eyes will increase endorphins and lower cortisol 🌱👌🏼

Save this for when part of you wants to cross the finish line.

When a trauma therapist says “we can go as fast as you can go slow” it’s because shifting the nervous system out of urgency is the whole point! ❤️‍🩹

If complex trauma means the system has learned that you are in a perpetual state of emergency, then healing is allowing the body to realize and relax into safety.

And since our brains and bodies are wired to survive, we remain on high alert - by design! Shifting out of urgency and survival mode… takes conscious effort, consistency, and time 🌱

We have to slow down to notice what drives us and what is no longer true. You can’t rush healing.

Apparently yesterday was blue Monday… the most depressing and gloomiest day of the year. Did anyone else miss the memo? 😂🖤

It’s hard to scroll past so many promises of fast relief without feeling a bit sick 🤢 I know how tempting quick fixes are… especially when you’re tired of carrying so much. Wanting relief makes sense.

But a hyper-protective nervous system is slow to shift, by design.

When change feels slow, it’s often because your system is doing exactly what it learned to do to keep you safe.

If you’re not seeing instant shifts, you’re not broken.
You’re human.
