It's been 5 years since Harvard Medical School researchers revealed the issue of hidden hearing loss - the loss that won't show on a standard hearing test.

People with hidden hearing loss struggle to understand speech, especially in noisy environments. This happens even when standard hearing tests show normal results, because the damage is neural, not sensory.

Just a few more tips to prepare for the night!

🔋 3️⃣ BE READY
If you or a loved one wear hearing aids or cochlear implants, check and charge them before the night begins. Halloween can be loud and full of surprises — a quick battery check means you won’t miss a single “trick or treat!” Most prescriptive hearing devices do quick charge - a 30-minute charge will give you 2-4 hours of use!

🧡 4️⃣ BE SUPPORTIVE
If you notice a neighbour or family member struggling to hear, offer light, repeat what was said, or help translate. Those small moments of patience and understanding make everyone feel part of the fun.

👂✨ Let’s make this Halloween one where everyone feels included, heard, and connected.
Because hearing care is about more than ears — it’s about community. 💙

🎃👂 HEARING TIPS FOR HALLOWEEN — FOR YOU & YOUR NEIGHBOURS!

🕯 1️⃣ LIGHT UP
Turn on your porch lights or keep a small flashlight handy so faces can be seen. Lip reading and facial cues help more than most people realize — especially when little ghosts and goblins come to your door!

🎭 2️⃣ ASK KINDLY
If you didn’t quite catch what someone said, it’s okay to ask! A friendly, “Can you lift your mask so I can see your smile?” makes communication easier and teaches kids that inclusion starts with kindness.

We will be sharing some tips on hearing for the season!

There are 3 red flags that tells you it's time to get help with your hearing:
1. You can't really hear across the table at a restaurant.
2. You need to rely on captions a lot more when watching videos.
3. "Pardon me?" appears more frequently in your mouth.
