The clocks have officially moved forward, bringing longer daylight hours and the start of seasonal changes across New Brunswick.

As we transition from winter into spring, construction sites can experience rapidly changing conditions. Melting snow, icy patches in the morning, mud, and unpredictable weather can all increase the risk of slips, trips, and falls.

As temperatures rise, many winter-related hazards can still be present, especially on early spring mornings.

As the season changes, take a moment to refresh your safety mindset:

1) Watch for wet, muddy, or icy surfaces
2) Be cautious of changing ground conditions
3) Allow extra time when driving to and from job sites
4) Wear proper footwear with good traction

📄 Our Winter Safety Toolbox Talk still contains helpful reminders as we transition into spring:

Let’s talk mental health! Mental health is an important part of construction safety.
Focus, awareness, communication, and decision-making on-site are all influenced by how we’re feeling mentally.

Construction work can involve long hours, physical demands, changing conditions, and pressure to meet deadlines. Supporting mental well-being helps create safer, stronger worksites for everyone.

NBCSA has shared mental health resources to help start the conversation and connect workers to support:

What an incredible AGM hosted by the New Brunswick Road Builders this past week!

Our CEO, Rob Rowe, was proud to attend and connect with industry partners while celebrating the Road Builders’ continued commitment to giving back. Since 2001, this group has raised an amazing $1.35 million for Make-A-Wish Canada, New Brunswick, including a record $210,001 raised this year alone!

We were also honoured to see NBCSA’s former CEO, Roy Silliker, presented with an Honorary Life Membership, recognizing his lasting impact on the construction and road-building community.

Well done to everyone who made this event so memorable!

A new year is the perfect time to refresh your approach to safety and make toolbox talks a regular part of the job site routine.

Slips, trips, and falls remain one of the leading causes of injuries on job sites, often resulting from everyday hazards that can be easily overlooked. Taking just a few minutes to review this toolbox talk with your crew can help reinforce safe practices, identify risks early, and prevent incidents before they happen.

Starting the year with more frequent safety conversations helps establish a tone of safety and awareness in the workplace.
