please send some love and prayers to Petey's Pack and their dad.. Heaven gained another angel today and they have had their share. Run free Hank..
What happened to Hank????
I took Hank in for a routine Vet visit today, he needed his Bordetella Vaccine, and his senior blood work. Also, Hank had several small cysts that needed to be removed.
Hank hated the Vet's Office, and being handled. So whenever he goes in they put him under a light sedation to make it easier on him, and everyone else. So my Vet put him under, and during his exam he felt a mass. An ultrasound was done, and a large tumor was discovered on his spleen. I was then informed of a new test to determine if the tumor is a Hemangiosarcoma. My Vet has a lot of confidence in this test from his experience. So the test was preformed. Any reading above 81 is indicative of Hemangiosarcoma, and Hank's reading was 171. Given the results of the test, and my Vet's experience I knew it was Hemangiosarcoma.
At this point, I know all the options. Hank is my 4th dog in the last 3 years to have Hemangiosarcoma of the Spleen. I made the decision after Petey to never remove the Spleen again, it only buys you a short amount of time, and the dog's quality of life is horrible. I then thought I would just take Hank home, and hope for the best. But the best was most likely the tumor rupturing in a matter of days or weeks, and Hank either dying alone when I was not home, dying on the way to the ER, or being put down at the ER.
I looked at little Hank, he was sleeping so quiet and peaceful. I made the decision to let Hank sleep for eternity. Hank would never wake up again.
