Echinacea (especially Echinacea purpurea) has traditionally been used to support healthy immune function and can help to:

• Prevent and treat upper respiratory infections
• Reduce the risk of developing recurrent respiratory infections
• Shorten the duration of colds

It can be taken preventatively and/or at the onset of symptoms - scratchy throat, cough, or runny nose.

It is not ideal for long-term daily use for everyone, and always individualized (especially with autoimmune conditions or if pregnant). But it is safe for children.

Immune support is more than just taking a supplement - it's important to get enough sleep, manage stress, ensure adequate vitamin D, and consider gut health too.

If you’re in your late 30s or early 40s, this is your reminder to work on your adrenals.

Perimenopause doesn’t start the day your period changes - it often begins years earlier.

In your 30s and 40s, your ovaries gradually produce less estrogen and progesterone. During this transition, your adrenals step in to take over the majority of hormone production when you're in menopause.

If your adrenals are already depleted from:
• chronic stress
• under-eating or over-exercising
• poor sleep
• caffeine dependence
• burnout

… the perimenopause transition can feel much harder.

So what do you need to do about it?

• Stabilize blood sugar (no skipping meals)
• Prioritize sleep (asleep before 11pm)
• Protect your nervous system (do things that "fill your cup")
• Individualize supplements (invest in products that have a purpose)

You don't need to suffer through perimenopause.

I didn’t have parsley for this batch, and I added 2 tsp of all of the spices except Herbamare. I kept that at 1tsp. I haven’t made these in a while, and it was a really nice switch-up from the regular routine of meals and a meatless meal option!

Just like rotating crops improves soil health, rotating probiotics every 3 months helps support a more diverse, resilient gut. Different strains offer different benefits - supporting immunity, hormones, digestion, mood, and reducing inflammation.

Staying on one probiotic for too long can limit microbial diversity. Switching probiotics a few times per year helps keep your gut healthy and robust.

Acupuncture in kids can help if there are sleep issues, anxiety, digestive complaints, and pain from sports injuries, among many other things. Pediatric acupuncture is adapted to each child’s age and sensitivity, and may involve gentle needling, acupressure, or ear seeds.

Children tend to respond quickly to acupuncture because their systems are more sensitive and shifts tend to happen more easily.

Sessions are calm, short, and focused on helping kids feel at ease. We often share a laugh, and they may even fall asleep during sessions! ✨

Migraines and headaches are difficult but not impossible to manage. When working with migraines, it's important to be realistic - our goal is to reduce the frequency, severity, and duration of migraines, not completely resolve them.

Migraine tracking is the first step to identifying triggers, making connections, and getting answers. For example, fasting or low blood sugar is a common cause of migraines - the longer fasting window is more likely to precipitate a migraine.

But there are other causes like alcohol, certain foods, the weather, and different phases of the menstrual cycle.

Naturopathic medicine can be a great support, whether or not you are taking a preventative or as needed medication.

I find that it's important to address migraines from all angles - combining nutrition, supplements, and acupuncture (or ear acupuncture!) to minimize the impact that migraines can have on daily life.
