📞 National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week | Staff Spotlight

As we celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on Mila, one of our dedicated Emergency Medical Dispatchers, who has been part of the MCMC team for the past 3.5 years.

For Mila, one of the most rewarding parts of the role is the “unpredictable-ness” of every shift. No two calls are ever the same, and as she shared, “you never know what’s waiting on the other side of the line.” It’s this ever-changing environment that makes the work both meaningful and rewarding.

Beyond the calls themselves, Mila also values the strong connections built within the team. She spoke about how coworkers can become “more than coworkers” and turn into “some work friends,” highlighting the supportive and close-knit environment that makes MCMC such a special place to work.

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we recognize the calm voices behind the line and the dedicated professionals who make a difference every day.

Thank you, Mila, for the compassion, professionalism, and calm presence you bring to every call and every shift. 💙📞

To further support the community, we’ll also be offering popup clinics in Dalhousie as needed.

For the past 10 years, Céline has been supporting patients and families through her work as a Social Worker with the Extra-Mural Program (EMP) on the Acadian Peninsula. Through home visits and close collaboration with colleagues and community partners, she helps individuals navigate complex situations while ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.

While she initially began her post-secondary studies in nursing, she quickly realized that what interested her most went beyond the medical aspects of care.

“What fascinated me most was not only the medical aspect, but everything surrounding the person: family dynamics, social issues, and questions related to social justice and human rights,” she explains. Looking back, she says those interests naturally guided her toward social work.

At the heart of her work is a belief that care must always center on the whole person.

“For me, being a social worker means remembering that a person is never defined solely by their illness,” she says. “It means taking the time to understand their story, their values, the losses they have experienced, their relationships, and their living conditions, everything that influences their health and choices.”

As we reflect on National Social Work Month, which takes place each March, we extend our sincere thanks to all social workers across EMP and NBHL for the compassion, advocacy, and support they bring to patients and families every day.

For more than 15 years, Line has been helping patients across New Brunswick navigate their health through her work as a Dietitian with the Extra-Mural Program. Through home visits and close collaboration with other members of the care team, she supports individuals and families as they manage health conditions, overcome challenges, and work toward realistic goals.

For Line, the most rewarding part of the job is the opportunity to help people improve their quality of life in collaboration with her colleagues at EMP.

“Transferring my professional knowledge to help patients live their best lives and help manage symptoms related to their health conditions is very fulfilling,” she says.

“A lot of people think dietitians equals ‘diet’, but our roles go far beyond prescribing diets, especially within EMP,” she says. “We follow patients to assist with their symptom management, promote healing and disease prevention.”

As we reflect on Nutrition Month, which occurs every year in March, we extend our sincere thanks to Line and to all dietitians across EMP for the knowledge, compassion and care they bring to patients and families every day.

For Claudie, becoming a social worker was inspired by early experiences supporting others during difficult moments. As a teenager working in a nursing home, she spent time with elderly residents and their families, offering a listening ear and quiet presence when it was needed most.

“I realized how much my listening, my presence, and my non-judgment could make a real difference,” she says.

Today, she brings that perspective to her work as a Social Worker with NB Health Link, where she helps patients navigate the health care system and connects them with the supports they need.

“We wear many hats,” she explains. “We may conduct needs assessments, crisis intervention, therapeutic support, education, and advocacy. We work with individuals while considering all of the social, economic, and environmental factors that affect their lives.”

As we reflect on National Social Work Month, which takes place each March, we extend our sincere thanks to all social workers across EMP and NBHL for the compassion, advocacy, and support they bring to patients and families every day.
