â ď¸ Trigger Warning: Mental Health & Loss â ď¸
Iâve lost too many male friends to mental health struggles. Most people never saw it coming.
As a crisis counsellor, I hear it every shift, so many men carrying what generations before them taught to be strong, donât cry, handle it yourself, take care of everyone else.
So they do and then it shows up in other ways like anger, silence, shutting people out, substance use, overworking, addiction, disconnecting, and thrill seeking.
But it doesnât have to keep going like this.
Change happens one step at a time.
âźď¸ To the parents out there: Our boys will become men. That part matters. This isnât about babying them rather itâs about building resilience and awareness of self.
What can you we do? We change the narrative:
We start talking.
We teach awareness.
We make it okay to ask for help.
We let them know that it's not always going to be okay but there are helpers everywhere willing to support them đ
Teach them that "strong" men donât stay silent. They reach out.
