Dear all, since the spirit of
💖 giving 💖is more present during our cold holiday season, we wanted to share with you some tips for organizing a food prep and distribution event to help the homeless in case you’d like to do this with your dear ones. We have included some prices and locations so you can have an idea.
💖What to donate:
- Winter garment
- Food they can carry for a long time in their bagpacks: easy-open tuna cans (98cents each at Walmart) soft bars, bananas, croissants, water bottles (2,98$ for 24x at Walmart)
- Freshly baked warm cookies and coffee
- Utensils
- Warm covers (4$ each at Le Tigre Géant)
- Couvertures de survie thermiques (Amazon)
- Deodorants
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste (30$ for 50x kits on Amazon)
- Socks (10$ for 20x at Walmart) and underwear
- Restaurant 5$ gift cards (In addition to buying a warm beverage, they can also use the washrooms and sit in a warm place during harsh winter days)
- Wipes in small ziploc bags
- Sanitary towels
- Treats for their dogs
💖Delivery tips:
- Find them inside and around metro station Berri-Uqam, Atwater, Peel and around Old Brewery Mission and other shelters
- Drive in groups of 3; one person can wait in the car, while the other two hand in the bags.
💖Other info to consider:
-Hand in the donation kits in grocery bags, they will be able to carry other belongings in them.
-Always greet them and ask them if they want some food or need some items before you assume they actually want it.
- Remember there are always urgent needs all year long, especially all winter long, so consider donating also during other seasons.
- Since they are only allowed to eat one meal per day at the shelters, it’s a good idea to carry soft cereal bars when in downtown.
💖May all beings be blessed with unconditional love, compassion, abundance and health!💖
