"science has found play to be extremely important for productivity and creativity. Just like your body needs a reset, which you can get through fasting, you also need to reset from work in order to do your best work."

The traditional 9-5 workday is poorly structured for high productivity.

Here's another CEO of a tech company Slack supporting the message of more focused productive short work days.

"The most productive employees from my experience are those who go home at 5:30 p.m. but are hyperfocused at work," Butterfield said at a press gathering on Friday. "People can only think really hard for six to eight hours a day."

Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield likes people who work hard and go home early. He believes his app could help more people do that.

"Making one’s self happy is within everyone’s control. It’s just a question of which constellation of details you select to form your story. After a while, your story becomes your reality. Try it. It’s not just b.s.; there’s neuroscience to prove that the mere act of smiling can make you happy....you can still choose the details in your story. We all do it, except many of us do it unconsciously — we’re not aware that we’re building a story. That’s how those negative stories about ourselves get told, and re-told, until we see them as reality.

There is no reality, people, except the one we make for ourselves."

Happiness is a choice. I know, because I make it every morning. I wake up, and I am me. I’m 75. This is a fact. But there are so many pieces of information about me besides those. Those piece…

"This radical idea — that problem solving might take some time and doesn’t always have to be accomplished immediately — could have profound effects on decision making and even on our economy....Taking breaks is biologically restorative. Naps are even better. In several studies, a nap of even 10 minutes improved cognitive function and vigor, and decreased sleepiness and fatigue. If we can train ourselves to take regular vacations — true vacations without work — and to set aside time for naps and contemplation, we will be in a more powerful position to start solving some of the world’s big problems. And to be happier and well rested while we’re doing it."
